I really prefer croissant and coffee :-)

in the blender? It may even make a good drink. Maybe!!

Blend it good so there are no particles anymore.

Add some of this sweet chocolate liquor (belis, spelling????) and a bit of vodka.

(If you get rich with that as chef give me 10%)

Greetings,

I also forgot to list cinnamon powder from Ceylon. Even though honey has lots of sugar, honey and cinnamon powder is good for you. To be honest, most of the time my smoothie is too sweet so I'll reduce the honey and dilute unsweetened fruit juice starting tomorrow!

Thanks for all your inputs to make the smoothie healthier!

"Ceylon" well that proves that you certainly are a senior member ! clap2.gif

Fishbrando,

The cheapest frozen blueberries I found in Bangkok, is from Tops market. They sell their own brand of frozen blueberries for 154 bhat. (500g)

Are they good? I bought once frozen blueberries (can't recall where) and they were big but tasteless. Before I only knew the blueberries my mother collects in the forest which tastes 10 times stronger.

So I never bought them again. But asking myself now if different brands are different in quality.

Switch to strawberries--much cheaper; both berries have their strengths.

Good. Did you get that here in Thailand? If so, where?

Use a non-caloric sweetener of some kind, leave out all the sugary stuff.

I was under the impression blueberries are much healthier than strawberries and the latter has much higher residual pesticide.

OP, do not be worried about a bit of sweetener like honey--you indicated this is you pre-workout smoothie and the honey will give you a little extra boost.

Cheers

Damn, I used to be confused now I am lost about this healthy eating.

At 72 years of age, only medication to lower cholesterol level (currently 5.9 mmol/L) on advice from my doctor, eating bacon, eggs, tomato and sometimes baked beans 2 or 3 times a week for breakfast for more than fifty years. 167cm tall and weighing 65kgs, what have I done wrong? I walk regularly, at least 6hrs a week and when in LOS get much sexercise as well (of course smile.png ). And I do eat much fruit (including bananas for potassium), green vegetables and red meat (sans fat) often.

Nearly forgot, I also regularly played field sports (Rugby, Soccer, Hockey) for at least 60 years (incl childhood).

And I don't need to take my teeth out to clean them.

Edit: added teeth comment.

What makes you think you are doing anything wrong? You are at a fit weight and sound to be in good shape.

The bacon is not a good idea, as you no doubt know, and neither is frequent ingestion of red meat, but plenty of people eat both and live long.

If you want to improve the healthfulness of your diet without going to extremes or embracing fads/questionable science, cutting down on the bacon and the amount and/or frequency of red meat would be the obvious modifications, along with adding more fish or other foods high in omega 3s.

Thank you Sheryl and I do recognise your final paragraph suggestions. I have started heading that way, just need to put in more effort.

My "done wrong?" was just a flippant comment for those who advocate fads and questionable science (as you correctly put it). smile.png

Where are the greens like kale ? Possibly add water from a coconut and the meat also in it ? Blending and juicing raw fruit and vegetables is life changing keep up post-202056-14041670644053_thumb.jpgthe good work and possibly get out of indoor gym and out in the sunshine for a little vitamin d3 that most are low in . The blood test is easy , cheap and accurate at most hospitals .

Eating only skunks and lizards you would feel like 92.....

"Darling what did you cook for lunch?.....Skunk!" That would immediately make me feel older....

I heard cinnamon is bad (are 2 kinds of cinnamon). I used to go to a Thai pharmacy herbal shop for ground cinnamon. It was cheap enough.

Leave out everything except the blueberries, peanut butter (w/o sugar of course), Greek yogurt, flaxseed oil and not least the blending process - then you end up with something truly healthy. Add some almonds for completeness.

Sanuk711,

Good one! Kale is very nutritious but how do you use it? Perhaps in salad, soups and eat it by itself with dressing but in smoothie, I don't know!

Sorry to veer off the topic but a vegan acquaintance of mine taught me a good one for raw kale. Sprinkle liberally with salt (I think this helps draw the juice out of it and weaken the cell walls, same idea as sauerkraut) and then massage it until it has broken down. Put it on a plate, pour olive oil on it, and it's ready.

I've tried this with coconut oil and it's terrible. Olive oil is the way to go.

Also, I'm far too impatient to massage the kale. I use a mortar and pestle although the result is not as pretty

I think of juicing as fasting and smoothies as eating. I've done juice fasts in the past and I think couple of them did me good, but these days I'm into smoothies but I like to consume local and inexpensive products when possible. Here's what I've been having lately a few times a week:

Morning glory

Pakwanban, sabah snake grass (payayor) and a couple of other green leafy things from my garden I don't know the names of

bananas

Red dragonfruit when available (adds great color)

Coconut oil

honey

ice

water

After these are blended I add three large eggs and blend again for just a couple of seconds

Note: I used to buy any old five-baht bunch of morning glory in the market until I found out that the liquid you see them constantly spraying their green veggies with contains formalin, a main ingredient of formaldehyde. Now I pay 20 baht and buy from the lady who pesticide free products.

Put the kale right in blender if you have good high powered one . Possibly most important ingredient , greens for micro nutrients and kale even has protein ... post-202056-1404728512951_thumb.jpg
