Why do Thai people eat so loud?

Mr Tom

Recommended Posts

Eating with an open mouth expands the mix of oxygen through the food.

This enhances the overall tasting experience.

Try it. smile.png

[edit] Tasting has got nothing to do with politeness. It's an egoistic, subjective experience which cannot be shared.

China yes,but Thailand, have never noticed it,also it is bad manners here to bang and clatter your cutlery.

What cutlery?

Playing the spoons doesn't count.

P.S. it's the sucking of the teeth after eating that gets to me.

Fully agree with you there about China, but I make a point of never having a bang on the table in the restaurant, giggle.gif

I think I know the answer to that.

It's because the food is sooooooo hot and spicy that they have to take big breaths between mouthfuls.

At least, where I live, in Issan.

Also drinking beer at the same time is to put out the fire.

I've never noticed thais eating loud at all.

I have noticed though that many smack their lips after drinking a beverage (sometimes mulltiple times).

A while back one of my friends told me it meant whatever they drank was delicious. Whatever.

I'm a Brit and was brought up with decent table manners and rule #1 is keep your mouth shut while masticating/chewing.

In certain situations I can't help myself but to say or do something if somebody nearby is chomping like an animal...

It's disgusting!

Plus who wants to see their food in their mouth which often falls out because they don't keep their lips closed!

Not me that's for sure!

It's a rotten animal behaviour that 90% of Asians practice because they've never been taught any better by their Neanderthal parents

I've actually dumped girlfriends because they can't learn to be civilised and eat like a human

I'm fortunate enough that my mrs comes from an educated family that have decorum and decent table manners

China is something else!

They go the full hog spit out back onto their plate the likes of bones etc...

There again, these are people that think it's normal to spit and pee in the streets!

You'd be crazy not to notice the sucking of the teeth. Soups a different story. These places with just meat and rice dishes though, sometimes it sounds like a bunch of pitbulls eating next to me.

Well Mr Tom, you do seem to be a bit alone in your observation.

You never did mention what your sample size was to offer up this hypothesis?

Cucumber mate

Or anything acidic... Beer or water don't put the fire out...

Something I learnt about the key to eating proper spicy food is EAT MORE! [emoji43][emoji43][emoji43]

Poor you...

Best thing about Saudi is the exit visa!

They're gold medallists at being animals while eating aye!

I mean it's a serious din of snorting, slurping, burping and chomping!

And they're not afraid to fart at the table either!

For a nation of pigs it sure is funny they don't eat 'em!
