double entry tourist visa, how does it work practically ?

Featured Replies

I'm on my first tourist visa ever. First 58 days stamp will end on Aug,18th (a Monday).

1) When should I go to Chaeng Wattana for a 29 days extension : on the very same day or on the previous Friday ?

2) I plan to leave on a 10 days business trip at the end of my extension. But my visa sticker states that it is to be used before Sept,18th. Does it mean that I will loose the benefit of my second entry if I'm not back in Thailand by that date ? Or is there a way to "save" it ?

I read sometimes about re-entry permit/counter at the airport, how does it work, does it apply to my case, could I extehd the second entry validity and let's say get it stamped upon my return around end of September ?

Many thanks in advance for your assistance and your detailed replies/advices.

Use by means use it or loose the 2nd entry. There is no way around it.

You could to out and re-enter to use the 2nd entry and then get a re-entry permit for that 60 day entry.

Thanks UbonJoe ! Am I getting you right ? Let's say I extend my first entry until September,14th. Then I exit Thailand on a visa run before my visa expiry date, and re-enter using the second entry. But I still need to leave around mid-September and be back 10 days later. I could get a re-entry permit allowing me to get back using the same visa ?

What about my first visa extension, can I do it on the very last days or should I go to immigration a few days ahead of time ?

Why are you talking about 58 and 29 days? A tourist visa entry gives you 60 days and the extension adds another 30 days.

Your extension will be start from the date your current 60 day permit to stay ends not from the date you apply for it.

You must leave and re-enter on or before September 18th to use your 2nd entry.

Then you can get a re-entry permit at immigration or either airport in Bangkok that would allow you re-enter up the date your 60 day entry ends.

You can apply for your extension up to 30 days early at most immigration offices.

I'm just trying to be accurate : most of the time people talk about 30/60 days which doesn't exist in fact...Check your stamps alongside a calendar, whether it is an exemption stamp at the airport or a tourist visa you get 29 days not 30, and to the best of my knowledge it's been like that for years. I last entered Thailand, for the first time with a tourist visa, on June,20th and I'm admitted until Aug,18th, that's 58 days correct ?

Dear Ubonjoe, as usual with you, things are pretty clear in my mind now about the way things work for tourist visas and extension, second entry, validity and so forth. Thanks a lot.

not correct you have to count the day they put the stamp in

so things are not quite as clear after all

It is 60 days counting the day you enter. It is 59 days if you don't count it. You forgot there are 31 days in July.

No, not correct. As others have pointed out June 20th until August 18th is 60 days (both days included), and no matter how you count it you get 30 days added on to your permission to stay when you do the extension.

As evidenced by the above "discussion" about whether thirty days means thirty days or twenty-nine days, this visa stuff can be very confuzzling.

Okay, I have a two entry tourist visa issued on 26 August, 2015. I arrived 18 September, 2015 at the airport. The immigration stamp says "Admitted until 16 Nov 2015". The actual visa says "Enter before 25 Feb 2016".
Now, to maximize my stay do I need to go to immigration here in BKK before 16 Nov. for a thirty day extension on this first entry? Will I then need to go out of the kingdom to activate the next sixty day "leg", and get a second extension at the end of that? What does the "Enter before 25 Feb. 2016 "actually signify?
Thanks for your consideration about something I am sure has been answered before, but I have not been able to get a sure enough understanding from all of the variations I have read.

The"Enter before" date" is also the date when the visa expires. Entry before or on that date will give 60 day stay which can be extended.

Failure to enter before the "Enter before" date will result in a loss of the visa and only a visa exempt entry of 15/30 days will be provided.
