No waffling in support of USA v Belgium

Waffle House, America's best-known purveyor of the griddled breakfast goodie, is urging a boycott of Belgian waffles ahead of the United States' must-win World Cup clash with Belgium.

"We don't believe in Belgium waffles," Waffle House said on its official Twitter feed.
In fact, "Belgian" waffles aren't offered on the menu at any of the 1,700 Waffle House eateries scattered across 25 states -- most of them in the South where their distinctive yellow signs are familiar roadside sights.
Waffle House spokesperson Meghan Irwin told Today.com that the restaurant chain just wanted to have a little fun with that fact and show support for the United States as they battle Belgium for a quarter-final berth in the World Cup in Brazil on Tuesday.
"We've never served Belgian waffles at Waffle House, and we just want to support team USA," Irwin said of the tweet, which sparked a flurry of pro-US responses, as well as a Wikipedia-fueled discussion of just what the difference between a Belgian waffle and the Stateside version might be.

... But who's gonna offer a special on mom's homemade American Apple Pie? Who's gonna step up to the plate?(so to speak) All I can see is a lot of waffling.

Good luck to the Yanks. Maybe England can take up baseball or basket ball or whatever else is out there for us to have a go at. I once witnessed a Klinsmann Hatrick when he played my team...he was phenomenal that day. Good luck to you and him.....I think he will go on to manage a big premier league club soon - maybe Tottenham ?

England doesn't need baseball or BBall, they are totally preoccupied with perennial USA-oneupmanship - considering how the English refer to thais as stupid, how stupid can England be to think they can win this? Heck, the USA doesn't even give a rat's ass and couldn't be bothered with some fly buzzing around, but some small states like Alabama might have their feelings hurt and put Englands's lights out once and for all, LOL

England vs USA soccer match?

Klinnsman would send the C-team for this, LOL. Heck for all I know we could even see Dennis Rodman show up to play.

USA has the look of "entitled" on their faces. They deserve to lose cause its a bad attitude.

As long as they have this premadonna attitude they will not improve, they've got to go back to

their earlier, much earlier humble beginnings and revist humility and keep that virtue as part

of their philosophy.

USA population = 311 mil people

Belgium = 11 mil

one would think that the larger pop favors finding better players in every category.

Cost Rica kills this logical view with a solid karate chop. Switzerland though having lost

also kills this view. Both teams have not an iota of "entitled" on their faces.

Of course the KING of entitlement is England.

I hope a small team like costa rica takes the trophy.

You might not understand this post either, :)

This Media says this is the best World Cup ever, huge # of goals.

Circular motion with the right hand.

This World Cup has low quality in terms of enjoyment for fans like me - long drawn out useless

contests that drag on and on - no exceptions, even Germany has gotten boring.

Go back to heyday1 (pele), heyday3 (Socrates & Dunga Brazil despite loss) or heyday5 (Ronaldo of Brazil)

Five waves up are over, its all downhill for Soccer from here on out for the a huge number of years. Bah!

Translate this last sentence too for its sure that no braindead Brit will ever dig it. :)

3rd waves are wonders to behold, 5th waves, the last of the sequence are not as strong as 3rd waves

and show definite signs of waning power and finesse

Applying this concept to SOCCER in its entirety ..... Pele era was wave 1 up, Socrates era was wave 3 up, Ronaldo (also Brazil) was wave 5 up.

After 5 waves up come the inevitable 3 waves down aka correction. The years subsequent to Ronaldo are all a total crock. Ronaldo of Portugal =

circular motion with the right hand. :)

Socrates of Brazil 1980s was during the 3rd wave. Football may never ever be as good as that for a long time to come.

I think your post says more about you than about the world cup contests.

We're all getting older, and naturally reminisce about earlier (better) times. Plus, some of us are realizing much of soccer is passing the ball around. For many folks, soccer always has been rather boring sport. To each his own.

For me; I try to appreciate what's appreciable. Mostly, I get a kick out of the fans' responses. It's amazing to get such a large population of the world focused on something that doesn't involve Muslim extremists blowing people up. To get so money folks, of all ages, jazzed about something is, in itself, a big positive.

As for populations or land mass size: Some of the biggest countries, in size and populations, didn't even qualify for the WC. Better luck next time, as they say.

Agree.

100% agree.

I never seen so many entertaining 0-0 and 1-1 matches before.

Talking about the old days, where the football was played in an extremely pedestrian pace is borderline pathetic.

I bet the average team back then didn't cover more than 5-6 Km.

These days the average is almost 11-12 Km?

PS.

Why cant people who dislike Football go and play with themselves in another forum.

Surely it must be possible to create a Forum for Carryball, and a Forum for "the men in tights" (Baseball).

Except for the fact that the most athletic folks in US are playing other sports, which people in the US are more interested in.

Things maybe just at the beginning stages of people having some small interest in Soccer (but still not much)

I remember growing up.. Soccer team was made up of the "losers" that couldn't make the team of any of the "real" sports...

I realize that this perspective is unique to the US... But never heard of any kid in the US saying "I want to be a professional soccer player when I grow up"

.... Big ones are ... American football in the fall, hockey or basketball in the winter and baseball in the Spring/summer

In high school , I think the guys on the chess team were considered "cooler" than those on the soccer team...

But again .. This is changing... Tons of soccer leagues and tons of little kids playing soccer in the US now a days...

Guessing when these kids grow up in about 5-10 years they will still be interested in Soccer

Also in the US... Success builds fans... So if US team continues to get better... Fans will come

If it ever reaches the pint where the best high school athletes decide to take a "soccer scholarship" over an offered "football or basketball or baseball scholarship " from a University...

Then will be time for the world to watch out

Just have hope USA never become influential within Football.

Soon we will have commercial breaks here and there, and back to the moronic suggestion they came up with prior to 94 WC, with 4 x 25 minutes periods, exactly for the sake of commercials.

Or, infomercials they are called over there.

Read people's faces? Yes

Listen to the infexions of sound in their voice? Yes

Hand gestures and body motion and esp. twitches of the middle-leg? Yes

Hammer a direct question and watch the yes of the recipient dart like a mofo? Yes

Ferret out the objection, then pull it out by the roots and CLOSE the deal? Yes!

Sum it all up = I'm a sales CLOSER. Its my chosen profession. An engineer by education but trashed it all for the easy road to money

for those with the ability to go for the JUGULAR!

These abilities are my weaponry. Had they not been, I would not have been able to retire at age 39 in LOS, go broke by 55 without working

a single day in that period, and then pump enough dough in a few months to take off another 10 years in retirement in LOS.

Now don't go overboard because I spoke about money! I detest having to work for it. IU would prefer to just rob a bank and say f*** it.

Once the money is nailed, I forget about it, totally unimportant subject to yours truly.

Yes of course, but its been quite a few years now and the popularity of the sport has grown exponentially stateside. They have no excuse now to play so badly.

No midfield magic whatsoever, errant passes galore, no real balls to go for the jugular at goal, the only MAN on the team is the goalkeeper. They get rattled too

easily.

With 311 million population = so many choices - and huge increase in Soccer interest over the years I expected much, much better.

Wanting my country to win does not mean I should bulls*it myself about their slovenly gains.

They're a disgrace to the fans.

You really do not know much about football, do you.

You are good at writing hahaha (100 times).

How about some rolling on the floor of your own joke?

There is an icon for it.

If I was a Brit (which I am not), you would have known, if you know football at all, that I would like the long balls in the old days (the ball cover the distance).

It was called kick and run.

Anyone who remembers more than 25 years back will remember how easy the good ones could pick off player after player, since they had much more time before the next player came along trying.

Not saying the already mentioned players were not top notch.

Of course there were the best those days.

So,

by saying one would like a team to cover 5-6 Km, instead of 11-12 Km, suggests one has absolutely no clew about football, thus should be looked upon as a TROLL!

And worse! Players will have to remove their belts and shoes and the black ones might get a finger up the bum searching for weapons of mass destruction.

Worse! They will have to declare all their foreign bank accounts so the IRS can dip into them at will and levy, levy, levy.

Worse! Terrorists will stepup their attacks of soccer pitches and games etc.

Lord, please don't let this happen. And Lord, while we are at this thing called praying, plesae don't let Chiangmai become popular in the American Press.

7 reasons why Americans suck at Soccer.

#3 is YOU = gotta have a fast game where everyone is running around like chickens helter skelter to keep the fans amused and interested.

"Americans have been bred on small, easily digestible segments of everything – sport, news, knowledge, etc. It’s a cultural effort to make low concentration levels a standard across the country. It’s also why the typical American watching soccer feels the inevitable urge to flip to another channel and watch commercials every 5 minutes"
