Yala's former member of local administration attacked and injured

YALA, 1 July 2014, (NNT) - A former member of the Yala Province local administration was shot by a separatist while working in a para rubber field.

Mr. Makata Basorlor, 40, a former member of the local administration, was shot in the abdomen while he was working in a rubber plantation. He was immediately taken to the provincial hospital

Shortly after the incident, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit and Crime Scene investigators arrived at the crime scene in Raman District of Yala.

Officials discovered and collected three 11-mm bullet cases as evidence.

Initial investigation revealed that Mr. Makata and Mr. Ruslan Hayeemalee were working in the plantation when an unknown number of assailants opened fire on them, injuring Mr. Makata.

Officials believed the attack was an attempt to intimidate the locals but did not rule out personal conflicts as the motive behind the attack, as Mr. Makata was a former member of the local administration in the area.

According to police, Mr. Ruslan has fled into the plantation in his attempt to get away from the attackers. Officers are now looking for him.
