Can You Help Me - Do I Need A Visa?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm off to SE Asia on the 18th of July flying into BKK. I will be spending 40 days travelling between BKK and SIN. I have a flight from SIN -> BKK booked ok the 38th day of my stay. I will depart from BKK on the 40th day.

At no time will I be spending more than 30 continuous days in Thailand. As a UK resident I believe I get 30 days visa-waiver on entry into Thailand.

My query is: As my return ticket is dated more than 30 days after I will enter Thailand, will I require a visa before I fly, despite the fact I have no intention of spending more than 30 days in Thailand? Is my flight booked from SIN-BKK proof enough of an onward flight or will the airline require me to have a visa to fly?

Many Thanks

The Tourist Visa exemption depends on nationality and on the passport you hold, not on where you are resident. See also Qantas' IATA database for requirements.

Aren’t you a bit confused? Your flight SIN-BBK is proof of onward travel out of Singapore, not out of Thailand.

Perhaps things will become clearer, to you and to the readers of this forum, if you list your entire itinerary.

And why only a flight booking? Why not a ticket? When and where do you plan to buy the ticket for onward travel? How long will the airline keep your booking without your paying for the ticket?

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Maestro

I hold a UK passport.

I should confirm that I have made a booking, have paid and possess an e-ticket with AirAsia from SIN - BKK on the 24th August, with my return flight from BKK to LHR on the 26th August. I ask because I'm wondering whether the airlines/immigration take this as proof that I plan to travel outside of Thailand during the duration of my holiday and thus not require me to hold a Thai tourist visa.

Itinerary:

Arrive BKK 18th July, spend 30 days in Thailand visiting friends.

Enter Malaysia 30 days later, spend ~10 days in Malaysia / Singapore.

Fly back from SIN on 24th August.

Fly BKK - LHR 26th.

Thanks

You should have no problems, dress nicely and be polite to the Immigration official when you enter Thailand .

They will stamp you in with 30days.

You will likely not be allowed to board any flight from the UK without onward ticked transportation out of Thailand within the 30 days allowed for visa free entry. The airlines can be very strict on this requirement. Either obtain a visa or a ticket out of Thailand within the 30 days or plan an early check in and hope you are lucky; but be prepared to purchase a full fare ticket to somewhere at the airport.
