BANGKOK, July 15 -- Students representing Thailand in this year's 55th International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) has returned to the capital amid a warm welcome from friends and families, bringing home their honours in the form of silver and bronze medals.

Parents joined along Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology (IPST) deputy director Pornchai Inchai at the airport to welcome and congratulate the winning teams with pride and joy.

Four silver medals won by Thailand resulted from the efforts of Kritakorn Karntikul of Chulalongkorn University Demonstration School (Satit Chula), Phusit Wattanawongwiboon and Sucharn Wiwatsettachai from Triam Udom Suksa School, and Siwakorn Sa-ngunmoo from Mahidol Wittayanusorn School.

Two bronze medals were won for Thailand by Thanat Komolsirisphakdi from Bangkok Christian College and Thee Ngamsaengrat of Triam Udom Suksa School.

This year's IMO competition was held in Cape Town, South Africa, attracting 560 student participants from 101 countries to the renowned Olympiad. Thailand ranks 21st among the total participants for the team's combined effort in the competition.

Thailand is set to host the 56th IMO next year at Chiang Mai University. (MCOT online news)

Good news at last. Well done.thumbsup.gif

I'll second that.

This is good news to me too. The second is recognized, and the motion passes.

Henceforth to be recognized : "All Thais are not idiots."

Congratulations to the medal winners.

The problem is now unless they have money or qualify for a scholarship they will have to return to Thai schools.

Schools they could probably do a better teaching job of than the system insists on imposing on students.

I think forgotten in the enthusiasm is the people who took the time to tutor them.

They also deserve recognition.
