Dad advertises for sons-in-law

SURACHAI PIRAGSA

Buri Ram _ A wealthy father who put up "help wanted" signs seeking husbands for his four daughters has been flooded with applications from hopeful young men.

The signs, posted by Sermkiat Kancharoensri, worked like a charm, with many young men turning up in person to file applications.

But no signs were visible near his office in the provincial capital yesterday. It was believed he told staff to take them down.

Mr Sermkiat could not be reached for comment. He was said to be in Chiang Mai on business and his four daughters were silent on the matter.

Mr Sermkiat, a former lecturer at Buri Ram Rajabhat University, is a successful businessman with assets reported to be worth hundreds of millions of baht.

Apart from being a local money lender, he owns four apartment buildings in Buri Ram with rooms rented out to students and government officials.

His daughters _ Venus, 27, Pimchai, 23, Methee, 22 and Thoranee, 18 _ each run an apartment block.

His wife, Mrs Sunee, said her husband wants the girls to take over his businesses and hopes they will marry young men with strong business acumen.

She said he discussed the plan with their daughters who demanded a say in the selection process.

Candidates must be 25-35 years-old, with Mathayom 6 (Grade 12) being the minimum education requirement. They also need to be healthy and morally decent.

Applications must include personal details and a letter of recommendation. Successful candidates will be required to help with the family business for three years before finally being accepted as sons-in-law.

Mrs Sunee said initially she was opposed to the idea, but her husband wanted only the best for their daughters.

Anuparp Sa-ornrum, 28, a local hairdresser, said Mr Sermkiat's daughters were beautiful and well-educated.

He was also interested in applying, but believed candidates would need qualifications not specified on the signs, such as being from a rich family.

:o

Its a strange state of affairs when you are absolutely minted with 4 gorgeous daughters and you have to advertise.....

Still, I don't think including a photo helped much.....

The only thing missing from this story is the part where prospective suitors should include their banking details so that "daddy" can make sure they are suitable. :o

Someone from another "site" has already put dibs on the youngest daughter ! :D

mmmmmm, strong buisness acumen, that probably rules me out.but i can work on the healthy bit,& bullshit my way out of the morally decent bit. :o

Can you imagine being married to a woman whose father would actually do this? Family reunions would be one social climb after another.

Obviously got tired of leaving it to gods will and enlisted the help of the Bangkok Post.
