Topic of our bar conversation yesterday:-

With the current clamp down in place and Thai consulates making it harder to get a Non Imm 'O' visas (must have Marriage certificates etc) how does a single, over 50, with substantial income get the ball rolling for an 'O' Retirement Extension?

We discussed the O-A visa approach but in places like Australia the Embassy make it very difficult (with expensive notarization) to obtain.

Sorry if this has been bought up in the past, did not find a search result.

If you are in a country that has honorary consulates you can still get a single entry non-o visa. Australia has.some.

If a non-o is not possible then you should get a single entry tourist visa and do a change of visa status to get a 90 day non immigrant visa entry that you can then extend. You can also do it with a 30 day exempt entry but you would only have 15 days to do it because you need at least 15 days remaining on your entry to do the change. But not all offices can do them..

If your local immigration office does not do the change you would have to do it in Bangkok and it may take 2 trips to get the it done.

For some it might be better to make a trip to one of the nearby embassies and consulates to get a single entry non-o if you local office does not do them.. Some may want proof you have the money (can be money in bank or income letter).

OP: Here is what you need for a Retirement Visa: Have 800'000 Bht parked in a Thai-Bank for 2 months before applying. Retirement visa extention: Have 800'000 Bht parked in a Thai-Bank for 3 months before applying.

That's all you need !

You most certainly not need a Thai-Wife for that. Go down on your knees and thank Buddha for that.

Does anyone know if the embassy in Phnom Penh is issuing the single entry non-o and how quick / easy is it to obtain for a single bloke with money and over 50 ?

Edit : that visa would then be used to get a retirement extension in Bangkok.
