Popular Post proovms
Hi, After reading this forum recently I was worried about coming back into Thailand with my third double-entry tourist visa from Vientiane. This was my third visa from Vientiane, but my fourth in a row for Thailand, with my first being from the UK. I arrived in Laos on Thursday in the evening, went to a hostel, then in the morning on Friday went to the consulate. The consulate was nearly empty compared to previous times, with maybe 40 people there total. It was very quick, I must have only been there for an hour. I wasn't questioned at all and everything went smoothly. After the weekend in Laos, I went back to pick up my passport on Monday afternoon. This time there was maybe double the amount of people, but I was in and out very quickly. They gave me the double entry that I asked for with no problems, although I was expecting them to only give me one. They did, however, stamp my passport with various messages: "Remark: The holder of this passport travels to Thailand under a tourist visa several times which may result in a refusal of a visa in the future." "Proofs of residence in Thailand & financial income are required next time" I guess that the first one is the 'red stamp' which I have seen talked about, but it shouldn't affect me because I will be going back to England before this visa has ended. After that, I got in a taxi to the border. I was prepared with 20,000 baht cash, a flight out of the country and a hotel reservation, should they ask to see it. Turns out I didn't need any of them and was let through without any trouble, much to my relief. I thought I would make this thread to give information to anyone that was worried about getting their next tourist visa, with all the confusion surrounding the issue. What will happen after the 12th of August though, is still a mystery. Thanks, proovms

slipperylobster
Sounds right. I did not get a red stamp, but they wrote on my last double entry visa that next time I would have to provide proof of income and proof of residence. Converting to a 90 day O with a subsequent retirement extension in 30 days from now. No more tourist visas for me.

KED
I am really glad you got your visa and were able to enter Thailand without problem. I think the biggest obstacle for people in similar situations is the inconsistancy in applying the rules. The Vientianne/Nong Khai border seems to be more relaxed than the Southern Borders between Thailand and Malaysia and Myanmar. I just hope that once the dust settles - it is clear what Thailand will allow and what is forbidden - I first arrived to Thailand at age 46 and, luckily, was able to use TV until I reached age 50 and qualified for retirement extensions.

Puyai
What do people think will happen using the second entry? If you have a flight out of the country and 20,000 baht can you see there being a problem?

shanahan
Obviously these posts such as the OP are indeed great information and fortunate for the OP. However overall consistency over the next month or so might give people a better idea of what to expect.

hawker9000
"Remark: The holder of this passport travels to Thailand under a tourist visa several times which may result in a refusal of a visa in the future." "Proofs of residence in Thailand & financial income are required next time" They want to see proof of residence IN Thailand (next time you apply for a Tourist Visa)? I would think they'd want to see proof of residence OUTSIDE Thailand in your home country.
farang000999
What is proof of residence? That does not make any sense.

Unless, they mean, similar to what Immigration has talked about lately, being required to show something like a hotel reservation to demonstrate you're really a tourist... But, the consulate stamp language doesn't say THAT!

MrWorldwide
OP, I am especially heartened by this sentence from your post: I guess that the first one is the 'red stamp' which I have seen talked about, but it shouldn't affect me because I will be going back to England before this visa has ended. Hopefully you've averted the usual brawl with a single sentence - we seem far more interested in arguing the toss re 'genuine tourists' than hearing anything positive in the leadup to the crackdown. It's also good to see the Consulates effectively warning people that they could be bounced, albeit after they've taken their money
