Popular Post BottleBlonde
We call him Big Boy. He turned up near our home about 6 months ago. I am not sure where he came from, but he could often be seen jumping in and out the garden where a Thai lady was staying with her own 2 dogs and then several puppies and a brown female (more on her later). He often played with the puppies, but was quite skinny and seemed to be looking for someone to love and love him back. Recently the Thai lady left the house with her 2 dogs, the puppies were taken by some man and now Big Boy and the brown female "Lady" (the mother of the pups) are abandoned and just living on the street, mainly by the local Family Mart. Big Boy is still young, maybe about 1.5 yrs. He is very loving and playful. We call him Big Boy because he is a very big dog, though much skinnier than he should be, even though I am feeding him every day. He needs a little training as he is very playful and can mouth people a little, but he never bites or shows aggression when doing this. However, he does chase some bikes (not all), and there is now a Thai man near where he stays that I really think is going to harm him one way or another. Please can you offer Big Boy a loving, safe and secure home. He really is a wonderful dog and I wish I could take him but I can't. He eats dry, wet and cooked food. He is not fussy...just hungry. I want to get him castrated but this will be easier if he has a home to return to after the op to recover. I am willing to arrange and pay for the operation if someone can take him. I am currently treating him for blood parasites as the female had this and I was concerned that this may be partly why he is so thin. Please help save lovely Big Boy from a life on the street, which I am really worried could be quite short if this Thai man encounters him when I am not there Edited July 23, 2014 by Rooo
Gulfsailor
Pretty dog. But from the pictures he does not appear too thin. On a healthy weight dog you should be able to see the contours of the first 3 ribs. Most dogs people keep at/near home are way too fat.
BottleBlonde
Hi Gulfsailor, yes on the pictures he looks quite good. I too hate to see overweight dogs that are being killed with kindness. Unfortunately, you can feel every rib on him and for his height he needs a little extra bulk. He is quite protective with the other dogs over food, he tells them off and tries to get everything for himself. Thankfully he doesn't turn too aggressive with it, just needs to be monitored if eating in the same area as other dogs. I am sure this would change though if he had a home and regular meals available to him. He gets on well with other dogs and wants to be friends with them. He only gets dominant when there are females in heat around him (I am also currently trying to deal with that issue, but it's another story at the moment). BottleBlonde
I have removed him from the area (at the time wasn't really sure what I was going to do with him). Luckily a neighbour is back here at present and has taken him into his home. However he moves out in 2 weeks as he has rented out his house and then he goes back to Australia. Tomorrow I will see about having him castrated. Please, Please if anyone has space, he is good with other dogs as he has just prooved by licking the face of another dog, and is happy just to laze about after eating his food. He is not safe yet......I just bought him some extra time! Edited July 25, 2014 by Rooo
notmyself
Some time back I looked into the costs of putting animals down by lethal injection. Depending on size (obviously) the cost ranges from 52 Baht for a small dog or cat to 87 Baht for a large dog such as an Alsatian. A staggering number of unwanted pets are abandoned to a harsh life on the streets and I for one would like to do something to put them out of their misery. I can source a chemical required from China that degrades quite quickly allowing the meat to be consumed safely by crocodiles at the few remaining farms on the island. As a not for profit operation it wouldn't generate any cash but it could be useful as a hobby or even a way of dealing with potential tourist visa issues. I think you mean well but I'm not sure that "hobby" is a suitable word for killing animals, unless you find it an enjoyable pastime. If the animals were given a choice I think a harsh life on the streets would be their preferable option. Well done BB for caring! Hope you find a home for him.
Popular Post mustafa
That's marvellous news, notmyself. My hobby here is putting broke and bitter expats out of their misery, and with that fast acting chemical of yours we could feed the expat carcasses to all the starving street dogs. A touch of sugar would help with the bitterness?

Have to agree that hobby is not a good word to use. The was a lady some time back on a Samui FB group who had managed to 'adopt' 2 pigs and 2 goats along with uite a number of cats and dogs. The owner of the property was not happy and demanded she get rid of them. I offered to take the 2 pigs on the understanding they would be eaten but she declined. Popular Post BottleBlonde
To update those of you that care about this world we live in and the animals that we share it with, Big Boy has been so very lucky! A very kind man agreed to give him a home so that he is safe, and even better than that, after I told him about the girlfriend Big Boy has who unfortunately is also pregnant (I tried to sterilise her but she had blood parasites so wasn't healthy enough for the op and as it turns out she was already about 2 weeks pregnant), he agreed to take her too in order to make the transission to his new home easier and so that neither would pine for the other. I took them both yesterday to their new home and they have already settled in. I couldn't have asked for and certainly never expected the outcome to be so good. To find a home for both of them is just amazing. When the puppies are born (in about 4 weeks), we will look to see if there are any suitable, fur-ever homes with like minded caring people, but if not they will also live out their days with mom and dad (aka Big Boy and Lady). Big boy is of course bigger (taller) than your average Thai dog and Lady is also a decent size. I have attached a picture of Lady too so that should anyone possibly be interested in a puppy from them when they are ready they can contact me. I will be looking though for long term serious owners who treat their animals as part of the family and are willing to care for them in whatever way is needed. They will only go to homes with secure gardens (not allowed to roam freely) and to people who have the right to remain long term in Thailand, i.e No Tourist Visa holders.
