Incidentally, if you want the O-A visa you will have to go back to the UK. Penang was visa runner central for years and its consulate's options have been curtailed by the MFA in Bangkok. This is a bugger for you since it is common practice to apply for such visas in either your country of nationality or residence and so you should be permitted to submit it. If I were you I'd pop down to KL and see what they say. It is the embassy and may have more discretion. Still, I think you are wasting your time unnecessarily with all this.

Whether you think it's bizarre or not is not really important to me, what I plan to do suits me for the medium and long term future and it's best to get it out the way. Whether you think it's appropriate or not is not important to me and I certainly don't intend to justify what I'm doing. Talk about responding to a post and adding no value!

And why on earth would I choose to return to the UK for non-imm O-A! Totally bizarre suggestion. I can make a 3 month O in Penang, go to Thailand and apply for an extension based on retirement in last 30 days of the O, same result just lacking the major inconvenience and cost of a flight to the UK. Talk about a ridiculous suggestion!

But you just said earlier that you didn't wish to spend two months inThailand. You wanted the year O - A visa. In any event, have you researched what effect your new found residence in Thailand will have on your MYS .

If he has a MM2H visa It will have no effect on it. They don't care if you have other visa's for other countries, after all it's a SECOND home visa.

It's very straight forward, after meeting the financial requirements you get a 10 year visa. No 90 day reporting, no need of entry permits.

Main set back is that it is a Malaysian visa wink.png

I wasn't going to bother responding TBH, it's adding no value and as I said, whether others agree with / understand what I'm doing is irrelevant and I certainly can't be asked to justify it.

Simple fact is this: I require a Non Imm O-A so that 1) I will be able to stay in Thailand for periods longer than 30 days as and when I wish; 2)which will have the benefit of my not being at the mercy of the whims of border I/Os who may / may not chose to let me enter in light of numerous 30 day waivers (albeit not back to back I am not convinced that all I/Os are clear on exactly what the ruling is; 3) BUT I do not want to spend 2-3 full months in Thailand at this PRESENT POINT IN TIME while waiting for the time when I can get a retirement extension to my Non-O (as such I may need to pay for a multi re-entry permit twice - once on the O to allow me to come and go during the 90 days of the O validity and then again when I get the retirement extension).

Stuurman has correctly addressed the issue over my MY status. Thinking that someone would go down this route without researching such impacts is absurd and a bit of a dumb question IMO.

Getting the visa is no problem to me at all and a far better option than going to the border and being bounced because of an I/O wrongly applying the clampdown rules and screwing up an important event for me. Whether others think it's an OTT solution is not of the slightest interest to me so forgive me if I choose only to respond to posts about the topic, getting the visa in the most hassle free way, rather than entering into pointless debate about whether I should or not because it doesn't accord with somebody's else's view.

You can't apply for the same visa in Thailand. You go to Immigration and apply for extension of stay. It's not a O-A visa. To get the O-A visa you have to apply in your home country. When you are inside Thailand you CAN'T apply for a O-A visa to Thailand. It's obvious that you have never been staying here in Thailand

It's you who should get your facts straight.

The Non O-A visa and other visas can you only apply for at a Thai embassy/consulate. Inside Thailand there are no Thai embassy or consulate. At the Immigration you can apply for an extension of stay if you already have got the O-A visa in your home country.
