First time Non-B Visa run to Penang

Featured Replies

hi all,

posting for a friend, any help would be great.

He's been offered a job in Thailand and needs to get a non-B visa. He has all of the paperwork required to make the application. Does anybody the time frame between submitting the docs at the consulate and picking up the passport/visa? Is it still drop it off in the morning of day one and collect the afternoon of day two? If so, is that the case for multiple entry non-B visa's?

I believe i'm correct in saying that you now need to get the non-B before submitting the WP3. Anybody know differently to that? I've been told that the rules have changed again!

Any advice from recent non-B applicants to Penang would be greatly received.

have a great day

I should also point out that he's currently in Thailand on a tourist visa.

He was told he needed to have 15 days left on that visa to make the application in Thailand, but i'm assuming if he goes to Penang to do it, he won't need those days on his visa.

Anybody know anything?

You will need the WP3 to get a single entry non-B, you need to apply for the WP first.

Multiple entry non-B is only given if you have a WP with at least 8 months validity.

Still drop it off in the morning of day one and collect the afternoon of day two for every kind of visas.

Thanks for this. I had seen it but i know a lot has changed since this was posted.

My friend was at immigration on Monday and was told there that foreigners can now apply for a non-B in Bangkok but as the company he'll be working for is less than 2 years old he should go to Penang (an official told him all of this) as it will be easier, less paperwork required etc.

He was told that he needed to have the non-B BEFORE applying for the WP. I know this is completely different to what we're used too so that's why i'm checking with anybody who's done this recently.

Better E-mail an agent in Penang, they will know if the consulates rules have changed.

He cannot get a WP before he has a non-B visa, but he can apply for the WP now and should do so.

Unless the rules have recently changed, he will not get a non-B visa without a wp3 form and letter from labour department.

If he does not have a letter of approval for the work permit application from the labor ministry he will not get the visa.
