'First ever' heat warning issued for Sweden



STOCKHOLM: -- Swedish weather agency SMHI has issued its first ever warning for high temperatures with the many areas set to bask in plus 30C heat.

“For a Class 1 warning it is required that the maximum daytime temperatures go up at 30C or more, three days in a row,” said Lovisa Andersson at Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI).

A class 1 warning means that weather conditions in carries certain risks to the public and disruption for some societal functions.

As you well know there's often a big difference between "average peak" value and "maximum" temperature.

I think your graph reflects average maximums not absolute maximums. According to my info Stockholm have had an absolute max of 36 C before. http://www.meteorologyclimate.com/extreme-temperature-records.htm

Average has nothing to do with this topic. Every summer there will be temperatures above 30 C in Sweden. It has been like that every year in the 50+ years that I have been there

Maybe Stockholm have 36 as max. But many other places have higher. Further south and inland will be warmer.
