Hi all,

My mate needs to ask this but he won't, so i will.

He washed (i assume) his passport 2 weeks ago, he has already started the process of sending it away to get replaced. I know he is overstayed (not sure how long but i think about a year), he was on a Non-Imm B previously and his last exit was via a boder run (think Cambodia).

What he needs to know is

1 - Will his passport be replaced without issue, even when he is overstayed?

2 - When he recieves his new passport what will he have to do to sort his overstay and get a new stamp/visa?

3 - He plans to start a new job which will provide him a new work permit and visa, can he apply straight away for this or not untill the overstay is delt with (meaning would the process show the overstay and allow to sort then or must it be done separately?)

Thanks alot guys. I can't help him on this so best i could do was to ask here and hope someone can provide the required info.

He can still get a new passport with an overstay.

The best way is fly out and pay his overstay fine of 20k baht at the airport.

He needs a valid permit to stay to start the process of getting the work permit and etc.

He needs to go out and get tourist visa in order to be sure he has enough time to get the work permit application done and paperwork to get a visa,

Thanks Ubonjoe.

So when his new passport arrives it will not have any stamp or visa in it. What will he have to do to get a visa / entry stamp, given that he will be in the country with passport that has no visa / entry stamp, prior to leaving and returning?

Nothing. With his old passport number immigration will find when he entered, fine him accordingly, fill departure card and leave.

He has until August 12 to get everything sorted.

Or he is liable for a one year ban.

Incorrect. Aug 12th is the announced date for restrictions on back-to-back visa exempt entries at the airport.

New ban rules are supposed to be effective by September, but there is no set date.

Ok. So him do a boder run last will not be an issue, good. Final question, must he fly out or can he pay his overstay at a land boder?

Thanks mate, and to all others that posted.

Leaving via air is often recommend as better. However there is people that does it via land without any problem.

Fair enough. Still means he needs to think SERIOUSLY about WHAT he's going to do. UK passport office is approximately 11 weeks to get a new passport!

Nowhere is indicated that OP's friend is from the UK - not everybody in Thailand is.

People from the UK should leave now, with a travel emergency document to UK where the wait is not so long.
