Car ramps

Featured Replies

Hi,

Would anyone know the best place to buy a set of car ramps in Bangkok?

They don't seem to be very popular

Visited places like Autobacs & Cockpit to no avail.

Probably somewhere in china town sells them!.

Thanks

Chris

Local welding shop can make them. Just have to make sure they are made from steel strong enough to hold the weight you need. ie, don't make up carr ramps and drive a 3 axle truck on them.

Thank you for your replies.

Cant believe no one in Thailand sells them?

But I guess having a set made is a good idea.

Thinking about maybe importing some Rhino ramps (rhino-ramps.com) but its going to be expensive.

Thanks again

Chris

Last time I checked True Value had them, http://www.truevalue.co.th/index.php   .. I think I saw some at one of the home improvement stores too, the name of which escapes me at the moment, but the one I used to frequent was in the Future Park mall. The store was not Home Pro or Home Mart though, but as I recall it did have the word "home" in the title.. Being as I would be underneath the car I'd be dubious about just getting a set welded without it being properly engineered, that's not something I'd trust the local Somchai fabricator with, just my opinion.

Conversely you could utilize this technique if proper ramps are unavailable..

However inadvisable..

Try hardware house there is supposed to be a branch in bang na somewhere.

if not go to china town like you said.

i second what ws said about getting some done by a local 'welder' the likelyhood is it wont be actually welded and you only have to look at the ramps made to go up kerbs that arent strong enough.

I am a welding inspector. Thai's can weld. The bit about no face shield is dubious but it doesn't make the welds bad. Go to a welding shop, not some backyard.

Some can but where my life's concerned it's not worth playing Russian roulette to find out who can and who can't? And once the job's done and it turns out crap are you then going to cheat the guy or buy ramps that are crap? BTW not everyone is capable of knowing if it's junk or not just by looking at it anyway? Maybe the OP likely isn't one of those people, maybe he's not a welding inspector which is why sourcing it for him is not the best safe way to go. It isn't just about the welding either it's also about the materials used, strength and proper application, utilizing triangulation and such as well in their construction. Here's the thing too, without a proper helmet or mask you can't watch your welding bead or whether or not the welds have full integration between metals, heat settings, wire feed speed, etc. unless it;s stick welding of course but still need to see the work. Nope, less than convinced, my post stands..

FYI I'm not a welding inspector, just been welding a large part of my life and prior to that polished my skills by watching and learning from a host of really first rate certified welders.
