Sherry Vinegar?

Featured Replies

I'm looking to get hold of some sherry vinegar.

Has anyone seen it for sale in Bangkok (or anywhere else)?

Never looked but try Balsamic vinegar available at most 'expat' BKK supermarkets and you won't go back.

It's basically the same, originally Italian, but aged using the Spanish 'Solera' method.

Go figure.

are you looking for adding to stir fries,if so I use rice wine,in the uk I used sherry which according to ken holm is ok.but I havnt seen any here.

available in Tesco and makro.

I've been searching for sherry vinegar in Bangkok too. I'll try using balsamic vinegar, but I can imagine its really the same.

Balsamic vinegar is totally different from sherry vinegar. The former is black, thick and sweet, the latter golden, thin and sour.

Sherry vinegar is available in Gourmet Market. I'd suspect you can also get it at Home Fresh Mart since they're basically the same company.

Incidentally, Gourmet Market also sells white balsamic vinegar, which I prefer for salad dressings since it doesn't leave unappealing brown splodges everywhere.

Thanks AyG! I'll take a look next time I am in Gourmet market.

BTW my previous post should have read: I'll try using balsamic vinegar, but I can't imagine its really the same.

I bring red wine vinegar, sherry vinegar, cider vinegar, and balsamic (white and red) from the States or Europe and Filipino cane vinegar with chilis from the Philippines, and all are quite different from each other. I have seen all of them (except for the FIlipino), though, at Fresh Mart at the Mall Bang Khae. I would imagine they are also at Villa, but I couldn't swear to that.

The only vinegar I buy in Thailand is rice vinegar.

check out mirin, a japanese condiment and usually widely available...serves most of the same purposes as a dry sherry vinegar....

I've never heard of the Mall Bang Khae but I'll look it up. thanks for that. As for Mirin, well I'd prefer the real thing, but I might try it if I really can't find sherry vinegar.
