Bangkok - Statistics released by Thailands information technology professional organization, the Association of Thai ICT Industry (ATCI), revealed that smartphone penetration in Thailand is now more than 25 percent, and expects the rapid expansion to continue.

Smartphone sales in Thailand grew 33 percent in the first quarter of this year, and 63 percent of the total mobile handset market came from smartphones during this period, with basic feature phones accounting for the rest.

PayPal estimates e-commerce usage in Thailand at almost 15 billion baht in 2013, while OurMobilePlanet says that 51 percent of Thai smartphone users have used their devices to purchase goods.

A new addition to the e-commerce trend is the availability of car insurance through mobile devices. DirectAsia.com Thailand recently launched mobile car insurance quotes and real time purchasing through its secure mobile website.

Designed for smartphones, the mobile website lets 13 million Thai car owners check car premiums and buy insurance on the go. They can also tap-to-call the companys customer care team from the mobile website, something the company says is proving very popular.

Checking car premiums anywhere by smartphone only take a few minutes and its a convenience customers really like. Most smartphone users want to talk to someone to verify the quote and its easy to just tap to call, says Michael Parker, chief executive DirectAsia.com Thailand.

Consumers are very connected and are sophisticated in their smartphone habits. If we can provide quick quotes anywhere, anytime and personal service at just a tap, we are engaging with consumers on their terms, he says.

Unfortunately this does not work well in practice here where a real life Broker can advise not just the cheapest but the best company and policy for their customers - remember in insurance anyone can do cheap, but it's only when you come to claim that you can find cheap sometimes cost a lot more !

Hi canopus1969  - We agree, a good broker earns their commission and cheap can also come at the cost of service. We are different because we do not provide a blanket low cost. Instead, we believe that safe drivers should not subsidize unsafe drivers and we try to reward safe drivers with better prices. In terms of service, we promise 30 minutes to the accident scene, or we will go on the hook and compensate our customers.

We don’t impose deductibles at the time of claim unless you wanted one when you bought your policy. Customers can choose our authorized garages for repairs or their own garage (e.g. dealer garage), even for older cars (most other don’t offer Dealer Garage for older cars). We dedicate a single claims executive to personally handle your claim from start to finish and we keep you updated on the status of your claim. We have adopted modern conveniences like the internet and smart phones, but ours is a human business dedicated to delivering personal service, especially at time of claim. We really hope we earn a chance to do that.

Which is why it is not possible to insure pickups via you.
