July 31, 201411 yr I recently was in Thailand for vacation. One night in Phuket, I went to a restaurant where they were using, what I was told, a Thai BBQ. It is a round cast aluminium cooking stove using charcoal in the bottom part, on top of which you roast the meat on the dome part, and you simmer veggies all around in the water you keep adding. I could buy one new one from them which I brought home (I live in Vietnam). I was wondering if any one knows if it manufacture in Thailand, and where I can buy these in quantities. I found that to be very original and fun to use with friends.

July 31, 201411 yr Yep. The local shopping mall from me has a Koran restaurant with them built into the tables - people cook at their own table like Suki at MK.

August 1, 201411 yr Author I live in Vietnam since 4 years. Here, when someone has a good idea for a small street restaurant, and his idea can be found easily in any shop, in no time there will be six more street restaurants within 200 meters around using the same idea. Once, someone had the good idea of using a very common semi round red roof tile over a small BBQ at each table, inclining it so the cooking juice would drip down into a small bowl next to the BBQ. That was original… but no more. Knowing that the No. 1 dish in Vietnam is the famous Pho (soup with pork or chicken or beef or fish), this "Thai BBQ" struck me because it does make the soup all around in the hollow area, but instead of boiling the meat in it, it would BBQ it on top! And it is fun doing it. Bingo! I said to myself. I would engrave on each of them: Fate in Italia - just to get them lost a bit. I think the large 36-cm one sells in Thailand for around 700 baths ($20-$25). On Amazon they are 65$ +++ each. I'm working on this… Thanks!

August 1, 201411 yr Mo Kratha (pan pork) the kind you're referring to comes from Northern Thailand, and they were doing it long before the Korean style MK steam boats started opening up. You'll find the kratha or kata at most markets that sell woks and stuff.
