Hello,

Am unsure if I am posting in the correct forum but here goes.

What is the Thai script for either/each of the following:

Live, Laugh and Love

Live Well, Laugh Often, Love Much

A friend wants a tattoo of one or the other, during their pending trip to Thailand.

Also, can anyone vouch for a good tattoo artist in Bangkok or Koh Samui or anywhere else to do the job?

Thanks.

Duggsie.

If you like that particular phrase, then you should simply get it tattooed in English.

If you get it translated to Thai, it'll just get lost in translation and it won't have the exact same meaning or impact. You'll end up at best with some goofy tattoo in Thai.

If you really want a genuine Thai traditional tattoo, then you should consider getting a so called "yantra tattoo". These are only supposed to be performed by "yantra masters" or monks at certain temples. If you're a female, then you won't be eligible to get it done by monks because they're not allowed to touch women.

These yantra tattoos are supposed to enhance your fortunes or protect you from evil, and only after a consultant with the yantra master, he'll suggest designs for you and explain what they do and mean.

There's a yantra master near Silver Beach in Samui.

If you get a tattoo translated from English into Thai, best to keep it covered up afterwards.

Couldn't agree more.

If it's worth having printed on your body, it's worth having it printed in your own language so why hide it from anyone who doesn't read Thai, is my opinion.

It's not for me, am asking on behalf of a girl (in her early twenties).

The things some will do, just to have a conversation starter, eh?

You can consult with the yantra master of a design which would convey similar message, or enhance your personality similarly.

Having a yantra tattoo will immediately get recognition by Thais as well as tattoo enthusiasts, while I'm pretty sure having some English text written in Thai won't definitely get the same reaction.

But in the end, it's your body and your own decision what to put on it.

I have done as you suggested and forwarded this info, along with the link you provided earlier, onto the lass in question.

I've also thrown my own two-penn'orth in and suggested she reconsiders as she has no actual links to Thailand (holiday apart) so will she do likewise if she goes to Japan, China, Arabia, the planet Klingon etc?

Who was it that said "Youth is a gift too precious to be wasted on the young"? wink.png

Thanks for the help. wai2.gif

Laugh as much as you breath
and love as much as you live.

จงหัวเราะเท่าที่ยังมีลมหายใจ
และรักให้ได้เท่าที่ยังมีชีวิต

and other phrases - http://hilight.kapook.com/view/67603

Live Laugh and Love is the most important thing in our life, isn't it? - การที่เรายังหายใจนั้นทำให้คุณได้หัวเราะ และรักคนอื่นนอกจากตัวเองมากขึ้น

Agree though you'll look silly if something gets lost in translation. Perhaps even if not

A Thai friend once linked me to a western celebrity (forget which sadly) who had a Thai language tattoo, and said it meant nothing.
