1,000 cheap restaurants to be set up in Bangkok

BANGKOK, 4 August 2014 (NNT) – The Commerce Ministry has resolved to set up around 1,000 cheap restaurants across Bangkok in a bid to help ease rising costs of living for residents.

Representatives from the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), the Commerce Ministry, and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), will preside over the opening ceremony to launch this project on August 8. Around 300 restaurants have expressed interest to join the project.

Restaurants who partake in the project will sell ten of their recommended single dish items at a price of 25-35 baht. Related agencies hope that by September, the project can also be launched in other provinces across the country.

The initiative for implementing this project was influenced by the success of the “Blue Flag” fairs where blue flag caravans set off to offer the public necessary commodity items at discounted prices, which are 20-40 percent lower than the original market prices.
