August 8, 201411 yr Hi guys, just a few questions about the B visa. From my understanding, they don't permit you to work, but are for if you're interested in doing business in Thailand, right? What are they mainly for? If you're doing trade with Thailand? What sort of requirements are needed? Cheers
August 8, 201411 yr No visa allows you to work only a work permit allows you to work. A non-b visa will allow you to obtain a work permit and work. Or it can be used for business trips to the country for meetings and etc. See: http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/123/15388-Non-Immigrant-Visa-%22B%22-(for-Business-and.html
August 8, 201411 yr Author Yes, that's clear, I've read that on some sites, what's not clear is the amount of red tape they require. They list a lot, in not sure if you need it all or some... I'd like to call the consulate and ask exactly what's needed, but it would be good to find out a bit more about the process beforehand.
August 8, 201411 yr If you want to work you would have to apply for the work permit first. You can do that with a tourist visa. And then once you have the approval letter for the work permit application and company documents you could apply for the B visa. It you want to get it solely for business purposes you would need documents for a company from outside Thailand to apply for it. You will not get a B visa at nearby location with out a work permit application being done. You probably would have to get it in your home country.
August 8, 201411 yr Although I have not yet tried to get one you should be able to get a year 90 day multi entry B visa if you have an invitation letter from a thai company. I'm not sure the other requirements but its worth looking into
August 8, 201411 yr I'm about to join this merry-go-round. My (potential) employer is sorting this out so I can get a work permit. Once the laywers have done their bit, I have a 30 day window to go to an embassy outside of Thailand, make the application with a ton of paperwork, then come back in on the non-B, and apply for the work permit. At least, that's if I've understood it correctly. Just LOVE the red tape. And to make it even more fun, I'm doing it in Delhi ;-)
August 8, 201411 yr It's a bit of paperwork that's for sure. If you have an employer they should take care of it, if not you'll need help. Not many can figure it out without some help.
August 8, 201411 yr Some here say you need a "B" visa and others say you need a "non-B" visa. So which is it? Will either one suffice?

You will then get a letter of approval for the application.. Step two go out for the non-b visa taking the approval letter and required document from the company. Step three get your work permit issued by showing you non-b visa entry.

August 8, 201411 yr Some here say you need a "B" visa and others say you need a "non-B" visa. So which is it? Will either one suffice? The visa is one type of Non-Immigrant visas on offer, such as Non-Immigrant B or Non-Immigrant O, etc.. Usually they are abbreviated as Non-Imm B or Non-Imm O , etc. Not many people would talk about a B visa, but if they do, they mean a Non-Imm B.
August 8, 201411 yr You can get a B visa if you are are non physically working director of a company. i.e. an investor or shareholder.

I'd like to call the consulate and ask exactly what's needed, but it would be good to find out a bit more about the process beforehand. Depends what consulate you go to, in Vientien they check every thing, sometimes twice. In Savanket the last time I went they checked only for the letter from the school. But if they they say they want this and that then you take this and that to be sure, especially in the current clampdown climate. Same for work permit, they are crash hot on paperwork. If you are working for an employer they will provide most of the papers you need. If you are working for yourself, setting up your own business I am not sure what you need but you will need to be able to show capital and I think you need to hire four Thais. Also in regard to the work permit you need to obtain this first in most cases an exception being working for a school where you need to obtain a non B first.
August 8, 201411 yr Some here say you need a "B" visa and others say you need a "non-B" visa. So which is it? Will either one suffice? "B visa" and "non-B" are short names for "non-immigrant B visa". So B-visa and non-B visa are the same exact visa. That's is "non" sense, but now I get it.
