This is not specific to Thailand and was inspired by a debate regarding teacher tenure in the US, but if you are willing to sit through all six minutes of it, I think he does make some good points about the difficulty of assessing the performance of teachers (that would be true anywhere) and the importance of having due process protection for teachers so that they can act as advocates for their students without fear of losing their jobs.

The issue became more heated ( or reheated)  recently when Whoopi Goldberg made some ill-informed comments  on a topic she knew nothing about (surprise, surprise), pretty much repeating the idea that tenure meant a job for life regardless of future performance and that tenure protected bad teachers. In fairness, I know some places where the application of regulations regarding tenure does protect bad teachers, but that's usually not the law, but its implementation that's at fault.

He is making an "open letter" type response to Whoopi Goldberg.

Maybe Whoopy was speaking about tenure in Thailand? Jobs for life - and many stop trying & pretending. Some assistant teachers walk out to make half-hour long phone calls etc. Just saying.
