Pattaya46
Hi. You maybe heard about the big Phuket Coast and National Parks cleaning by the NCPO.They are giving back to public and/or nature area that should never have been built. The NCPO promised to make similar work in Pattaya : http://thainews.prd.go.th/centerweb/NewsEN/NewsDetail?NT01_NewsID=WNSOC5707210010002From this week-end there were rumours that the Dusit Thani hotel, on North of Pattaya Beach, had to destroy its illegal constructions, and right now, there are diggers at work on their "pool on the beach" area... (Sorry for the bad quality: far & zoomed)So, who will be the next one ?

dabhand
Beach side of Walking Street next? Or have the legal issues been fully resolved in this instance? Anyone with knowledge of the current status?
ZigZagMan
This encroachment is a real dilemma for a company that has connections all the way to the top.
doggie888888
Lol, they will have to demolish the new centara modus, because before it was built the was a public access lane in that spot. It was conveniently blocked off before finally sold off with the two private properties alongside that lane. As if they would dare take on owners of Centara! Popular Post JesseFrank
Maybe Dusit is renovating the pool area, and making it bigger ?
Chang_paarp
If it is due to an order from the generals, this could be very interesting, as inferred above given the alleged shareholding of the Dusit Thani hotel chain. Anyone got a popcorn franchise?
chickenslegs
Looks to me as though the pool is built over a rocky outcrop and there has been no encroachment onto the beach.
Pattaya46
Looks to me as though the pool is built over a rocky outcrop and there has been no encroachment onto the beach. The pool seems to be ok, but the large artificial terrace built South-West of it is clearly a problem.Encroachment is not only for sandIn case of Thailand all area reached by the sea is property of the King and (usually) a public area for all.Agree that there must be rocks under it, but all rocks in beaches around are low, and most of them covered at high tide. Popular Post losworld
bravo tear it down... these guys brazenly constructed it right to block of thee beach for any passers by... I have zero sympathy for this type of asinine behavior...
Basil B
It does seem to be built on a rocky outcrop, but it is a obstruction for anyone wanting to walk along the beach/coast line, maybe they should be made to build a tunnel that people can walk through. toenail
What about the Holiday Inn or Amari tower that ignored the building code of being a certain distance from the sea. It should have been built back the same distance as the Markland hotel...which followed the ordinance/ code. -But let's face it, there are a hundred cases like this in Pattaya.

Oink
We stayed there in May and they told us that the lagoon pool was going to be closed August thru September for renovation. They have posted on Trip Advisor that the pools will be closed until 10Sept and that they are having to do urgent structural renovations to the "Point" due to erosion by the sea. Speaking of the setbacks from the sea, what ever happened with the lawsuit regarding View Talay 7 that was brought by the owners at Jomtien Condetel Complex? LAst I heard it was headed to the Supreme Administrative Court in Bangkok.

I understand the issues regarding building height, etc. My question is whether or not anyone has any information concerning the decision of the Supreme Administrative Court last year. Pattaya46
you can walk past this area, not very convenient but it can be done there are some bamboo and wood bridgesNo, no more. It's a few months already that the sea finished to destroyon the West side what was still "walkable" at last high season. The only way now is to walk on the rocks below during very low tides. Yes Its from the March 2008 issue of "real estate Thailand magazine" they where sure then that it was a foregone conclusion and VT7 is still there. seems they set a precident that the shoreline can be measured from low tide hence buildings taller than 14 meters closer than 100 meters from the shore line like the one being built at Bali Hai now. ZigZagMan
What's wrong with speculation? Especially in a case like this. Is this structure legal? Is a Phuket type crackdown coming to Pattaya? Would the Army be allowed to go after this place? (remember the sniper that shot Seh Dang used the Dusit Thani, Bangkok as a perch)
