bannork Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I bought about 10 payung (rosewood) trees a couple of years ago, all are doing fine, then in May I went to a nursery in Udon and bought 5 what the staff said were payung trees but I'm not so sure, the leaves are very different, namely much larger than the payung ones. I've enclosed 2 photos, one of the payung and one of the pretender. Does anyone know what species it is? Thanking anyone in advance.
HRKHAMYAI Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 It looks very much like "Mai Pradoo" We have many Pradoo trees on our block , Last year a couple of Payung trees sprouted from seed and are now about 2mtrs tall.
Michael Hare Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Llog like a Honduras mahogany (Honduran or big-leaf mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla)). Thais call them mahogany bai yai. Besides producing wood they make great shade trees. Recently I purchased six in Ubon
bannork Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 Thank you gentlemen for your reassuring replies, that day I did indeed buy 4 Pradoo along with 5 Payung but 4 died due to the heat. I presumed, it seems wrongly that the Pradoo died, rather it seems to have been the Payung.. Thank you for your advice.
