I have read many times on this forum (assuming no "out/ins" or overstays on the record in the current climate, of course) that the process in Laos is simple and straightforward.  I do however worry because I know that the applcation form has changed recently and when I look at some of the boxes it worries me.  The answers to some of the questions there are not too obvious, at least to me.

I also see that the website is quite specific about some things and I think I am right in saying that the following changes have been made -

  • the fee is 2,000 baht (and it used to be 1,500)
  • the fee must be paid by cash in baht (and there is no mention of USD)
  • you need two photos, and the size is now different.

For my own type of visa, here is what is stated, with my questions or concerns -

- Non–Immigrant "O"

For the purpose of long-stay retirement (an eligible person must be over 50 years of age), documents required are;
1. Curriculum Vitae
(what is expected here?)
2. Official letter from the concerned Embassy/Consulate certifying the monthly income of at least 65,000 Baht (not relevant to me)
    or Official letter from the Bank in Thailand certifying a valid account of at least 800,000 Baht, and is being held
    not less than 3 months
3. Recent Police clearance or equivalent reference of no criminal conviction
(What is acceptable here?  Does it imply a Police Cert. from the UK, in my case?)
4. Medical certificate

The bottom line to all of this is knowing where to pitch the application in terms of the back-up, to pre-empt any problem in getting the visa which would allow a migration to long-term retirement extension.  Should we follow the stpulations to the letter?  Advice greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

All you need to get a single entry non-o visa for being 50 or is you passport to prove your age. Take financial proof with you in case they ask for it.

Single entry non immigrant visas have been 2000 baht for many years. Vientiane has only accepted baht for a long time.
