best visa for a long stay

Featured Replies

i'm 24 and a UK citizen, going to thailand to live with my girlfriend. when i'm there i'll be applying for offshore work. as i just finished my education in the UK. i'm unsure about the visa requirements as last time i went for a long stay i had to get a 6 month back to back re-entry visa, i'm wondering if there is a better option since the new rules came in as of 12th august. i have been told no matter which visa i get i would need to make a re-entry every 30 days, if this is true should i bother to get a long stay visa?

There is no such thing as a long stay visa. You can have single, double or triple entry tourist visa, allowing each entry for up 90 days.

Tourist visa is your best option. Either a double entry or a triple entry (if still available). Each entry will give you 60 days permission to stay which can be extended for 30 days at immigration for 1900 baht. If/when you find offshore work you can then adjust your entry documents to best fit your work schedule.

with the new rules would it be best to make a re-entry via airport or land border? is the year visa only for over 50's?

thanks for the advice

There are no new rules. Where you re-enter it doesn't make a difference. Main categories for yearly "extension of stay" are people over 50, married, or with a job in Thailand. At present time students receive 90 days extension of stay for up to an year.

No, as mentioned above already there had never been a visa that last an year for people of your age.

That excluding Thai Elite card that costs Bt 500,000 for five years.

Not until you are married (to a Thai) or have a job in Thailand will you qualify for a 1 year visa.

"There is no such thing as a long stay visa."

Actually there is. It's the Non-Imm O-A visa. Not appropriate for the O/P, but it does exist as several examples shown below illustrate.
