Tilbury container stowaways included 13 children

TILBURY: -- Thirteen children aged between one and 12 were among 35 Afghan Sikh immigrants found in a shipping container at Tilbury Docks, Essex Police have said.

The group arrived on Saturday on a ship from Belgium and were said by police to be victims of "people trafficking".

One man was found dead and the others were taken to hospital to be treated for severe dehydration and hypothermia.

The 30 people released to police include nine men and eight women aged between 18 and 72.

They have been brought to a makeshift reception centre set up inside the terminal buildings at Tilbury Docks.

Police said they are "being spoken to about their ordeal" before they are passed on to the UK Border Force.

The other four people discovered in the container remain at Southend Hospital.

Thirteen children aged between one and 12 were among 35 Afghan Sikh immigrants found in a shipping container at Tilbury Docks, Essex Police have said.

They are classified as "immigrants" from the start, not "asylum seekers", or "fugitives". An immigrant Is: a person who comes to a country to take up permanent residence (Merriam-Webster). All right UK, time to squeeze just that tiny bit more, no sweat.

See the Belgian police and port security were on the ball - not.

Should be the same rule applied as to air passengers. Arrive without or incorrect visa, go back. Refused entry.

Belgium should take responsibility as the country of embarkation, and the shipping company who transported them should take them back. Time the UK stopped clearing all the messes of others.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter in connection with the death of a man inside a shipping container in Essex.

The dead man was one of 35 people from Afghanistan, including 15 children, found at Tilbury Docks on Saturday.

Essex Police said officers in Northern Ireland had also detained the suspect, 34 and from Limavady, on suspicion of facilitating illegal entry into the UK.

He is due to be transported to Essex for questioning later.

The group arrived in the UK on Saturday on a ship from Belgium and were said by police to be victims of people trafficking.

They were discovered after dock workers heard banging and screaming coming from one of the containers.

It is the U.K governments fault, regardless of what political party is in power.

They make it so attractive, for invasive liars to thrive on upon arrival , by rewarding them with free money, housing, medical.

A group of 20 suspected asylum seekers were found in the back of a lorry at a service station, police said.

An investigation is under way following the discovery in Ilminster, near Taunton, this afternoon.

Paramedics are treating the group, who were heard banging from inside, for possible dehydration.

Superintendent Geoff Wessell said the driver of the lorry, who was in his late 30s, was the person who has been arrested and was being held at Yeovil police station.

He arrived in the UK earlier today from continental Europe and was heading to the West Country.

"He was quite shocked to find people in his vehicle and he is assisting us with our inquiries," Mr Wessell told Sky News.

The officer said police were first alerted by a motorist behind the lorry, which was owned by an international freight company, who heard banging coming from inside.

Afghan Sikhs - in which case they are almost certainly fleeing from horrific persecution, however much I disapprove of the way they arrived I think they should be granted asylum on humanitarian grounds - Indeed if you look at the UK Sikh community as a whole they are hard working and law abiding.

Sikhs - Indian ancestors. So let India give them asylum.

The UK invaded Afghanistan.

Time the UK stopped clearing all the messes of others.

So did Russia, the US and many other countries were involved - Germany for instance.

Countries that can't be arsed to police this issue and let traffickers through their country, should be held responsible.

As a keen student of history, you'll be aware Belgium only exists thanks to the UK.
