Highways in 18 provinces damaged by severe floods

BANGKOK, 18 August 2014 (NNT) – The Department of Rural Roads has made known that highways in 18 provinces across the country have been damaged by ongoing floods.

Seventy-five roads in 18 provinces are now severely affected by floods, with the Northeastern region hardest hit by the disaster. Local offices have been instructed to closely monitor the situation and report details of damages to the department.

Motorists have been urged to look for warning signs posted by the department and proceed to avoid flood-hit routes for their own safety.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), meanwhile, said the flood situation in most provinces has eased.

Ubon Ratchathani remains as the only province to be affected by floods. Since May 5 of this year, a total of 31 provinces have been hit by floods and landslides.

Over 115,000 households have been severely affected by flooding this year. Residents in need of further assistance can contact the department’s hotline at 1784.

The 'department' damages? Didn't Thaksin repair roads in recent years for all of his ammortised followers to get to BKK?

Most of the said roads were imperfect before the floods, one of the biggest highway 2, disgusting in 3 years patching up. and everyday m/cycle/car accidents because of road surfaces. Police are not able to see pot holes half a meter wide and deep ?? highways not instructed to check on daily emergency repairs. Local government officials swerving to avoid vehicle damage and not reporting it. Stinks----money allocated in all jangwats should be investigated for highway work.

I thought they were having a drought in Thailand. Maybe they should send the excess water to the other provinces that need it.

Tell us something new. The major roads in Thailand have been in terrible condition ever since PTP came in power, because of their populist governing ( and looting the state coffers), there was no money left for road maintenance.

Riding a bike is playing with your life because the roads are full of potholes. I know of several highways in Thailand that are not drivable for the past 2 years at least.
