Industry confidence index rises for third month



BANGKOK: -- Industry confidence index rose for the third consecutive month to 89.7 in July from 88.4 in June, Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) chairman Supan Mongkolsuthree said today.

He attributed the increase of the index to increase in total purchase orders, sales, production, operation cost, and stronger business performances.

Besides, business operators, particularly small and medium scaled enterprises, also saw clearer policy direction and political stability after the National Council for Peace and Order came to power.

Although some industries would register lower sales due to the rainy season, but business operators were stimulated by increased border trade, and the establishment of special economic zones.

He said business operators are keen on lowering production cost in order to increase their competitiveness.

Meanwhile exporters remain concern about the GSP (Generalized System of Preferences) cuts by the European Union and are adapting themselves so as to remain competitive in the global markets which will see fiercer competitions.
