US military 'tried to free Foley'

Featured Replies

US tried but failed to free US hostages in Syria

(BBC) A US secret military mission had "recently" tried but failed "to free a number of American hostages held in Syria", the Pentagon has revealed.

It did not say whether the US troops had also tried to rescue US journalist James Foley, a video of whose beheading by Islamic State appeared on Tuesday.

However, senior US officials - speaking on condition of anonymity - said this was the case.

IS said Foley's death was revenge for US air strikes on its fighters in Iraq.

US President Barack Obama condemned the killing as "an act of violence that shocks the conscience of the entire world".

He compared IS militants, who control large parts of Syria and Iraq to a "cancer" and said the group's ideology was "bankrupt".

The UN, UK and others have also expressed abhorrence at the video.

There would be no militants with a "bancrupt ideology" around if the USA not pressed their own bancrupt ideology to other countries. The US policy planted the cancer!

One man's death is a tragedy

2 million is but a statistic

Remember Iran? Failed attempt to free their diplomatic staff? Too many failures to my liking.

Maybe the US military should 'sub-contract' more delicate ops to Israelis?

But that would mean to get off their high white horse. Not acceptable for Obama - too visible day or night.

:cheesy: Indeed. Therefore those people of IS are not accountable for their actions eh? Should have shot that load in the loo buddy.

Poor man what a tragic and cruel death....

Perhaps if the U.S. had your help, there would be more success! You should offer your assistance.

And where would the Israelis (and a vast number of other countries) be, without U.S. assistance of dollars (billions), manpower, equipment and technology?

And we really appreciate how grateful so many of those recipients are!

1) Perhaps they would. But I never volunteer.

2) Big question. The answer might be not pleasant to some.

3) And whom do you list as recipients? If both warring sides - none of them owe any gratitude.

Since you decided to take offense on US part consider the possibility of 'insider information' passed on to the Muslim Terrorists.(?)

any independent expert analyses / verification about the authenticity of that video?

So no militants would exist without the US getting involved in other countries? Your propaganda and delusions are scary and dangerous and do help the cause of the Muslim extremist...Perhaps that's your goal??? By the way your spelling of bancrupt should be bankrupt, a telling mistake.

Of course the ISIS people are accountable for their actions...I would point out to you though that the Mujahadeen were suppported by the CIA during the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan...now the boot is on the other foot.

Face up to the consequences of your own country's foreign policy.

The mess in the Middle East has been around long before any U.S. involvement, it predates the colonization of many of these countries (many weren't even countries prior to colonization) and I suppose you could say it goes back to the time of the crusades . . . these people have long memories. But to attempt to place blame on any single government or administration is simple minded at best.

Must be fun to look at the business end of the weapons you gave to your allies.

Yes, it goes back to the Anglo Saxon crusades and before with the Romans. They adopted Christianity as a Religion because Jesus came from the Jerusalem area. It just happened to be the hub of world trade. Christianity was adopted to rouse the masses and get them to fight for God. In reality they were fighting for traders who wanted to control the world trade routes. Things haven't changed since then, it's still about profit. These days the sheeple are fed "Freedom" and "Democracy" as well as religion.

When the US gained Independence from England, it only got rid of the English, it never got rid of England. The Anglo Saxon system that drove England and Europe in it's non stop pursuit of profit simply moved house and it still drives the US today.

How many Eastern countries have invaded Western countries ?

How many Eastern countries have been invaded by Western countries ? All of them ?

Another off-topic post has been removed, along with (many sensible) replies, sorry.

The subject is not US (or anyone else's) drone strikes.
