Police seize rosewood logs in Bang Saen

CHONBURI, 22 August 2014 (NNT) – The Saen Suk Provincial Police together with a team of forest rangers have confiscated several logs of SiameseRosewood in the middle of Bang Saen City.

Police have received a tip-off by a good samaritan that a large number of these logs were hidden in the open behind the Night Plaza Market in Chonburi Province. During their raid, police found several logs, slabs of wood, and scraps of wood.

In a nearby forest area, authorities also found 120 logs of rosewood that were neatly stacked up and covered with canvas tarps, all valued up to 20 million baht.

The owner of these rosewood logs was a 33 year-old man, who convinced that the logs were legal by presenting a valid document of trade. He also confessed that the stacked up logs were bought from another vendor at a price of 2.5 million baht.

Nonetheless, the authorities have confiscated the logs to check whether they have been legally obtained or not.

Martial law to stay: deputy Army spokeswoman

BANGKOK: -- The National Council for Peace and Order will continue to enforce the martial law for the sake of law and order, Deputy Army Spokeswoman Col Sirichan Ngathong said Friday.

Sirichan, a spokeswoman of the NCPO, said the martial law did not affect daily life of Thais and the number of the foreign tourists was also rising.

She was responding to reporters' question whether the NCPO would lift the martial law now that NCPO chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha has become the prime minister-elect.

"I hereby affirm that the martial law will not obstruct the country's administration," she added.

8-22-2014-3-33-56-PM-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Martial law now enforced across the country will still be in place though a new government under the leadership of Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha will come to power.

Spokesperson of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) Col Sirichan Ngathong reaffirmed the enforcement of the martial law, and said it won’t be lifted despite that the country will have a new government.

She said the people still could lead their normal lives and tourists still are visiting the country as usual and even on the rise.

She said the NCPO needs to retain martial law to ensure peace and order.

She assured that the presence of martial law would not hinder the new government in running the country.
