Working in Thailand but soon to retire. How to convert Non-Imm visas/extension of stays?

I appreciate any help on how to change visa/extension of stay status to retirement status for foreigner and foreign dependent spouse, both currently on Extension of Stay.

Can it be done in country or will it be required to leave the country and start the whole Non-Imm process over with new visas, followed by eventual extensions of stay.

Can the dependent spouse apply for the Non-Imm visa at the same time or do they have to wait until the retiree is on extension of stay after 90 days and then enter on that basis.

Sorry for the confusion, but I am sure there are some who have done this before.

You can do it in country.

At the end of your job you cancel the extension of stay and apply for a new extension of stay based on retirement. You just fill in the same tm7 form but this time you fill in retirement as reason and show the required documents to go with that.

Your wife does the same as always and just fills in dependent of you.

Thanks for the quick response. How does the financial requirement apply in this case? I assume that if based on the 800k deposit method, that the money has to be "seasoned" in the bank for a couple of months first before doing this change over. Is this correct?

Hello

A couple of more questions.....

Can the 800k in the bank, be in a foreign currency deposit? How to know what rate they will use to convert/calcuate the currency?

Is an online statement acceptable if the bank does not issue passbook? Would this printout have to be certified by the bank?

If changing provinces, are all the procedures done at the new location, or is any visit required to current location?

Finally, I heard in the past that after cancelling work permit, there is 7 day window to leave the country. Does the visa conversion then have to take place within this 7 day window, or can the work permit be cancelled after the visa status change?

Thank you.

The money would have to be in the bank for 60 days when you change the reason for your extension.

Not all offices will accept a foreign currency account in a Thai bank. You would need a letter from the bank stating the amount you have in foreign currency and the equivalent in Thai baht on the date the letter is done. They should be able to certify the printouts.

If you change to another immigration office normally their is nothing needed from the old office.

There is no 7 day window unless you apply for a 7 day extension. In your case since you will be changing offices you would have to cancel your extension and apply for the 7 days to give you time to apply at the new office for the extension based upon retirement.

Your extension is not automatically canceled when the work permit is canceled. You have to do it with a letter from your employer.
