30 day stamp

Featured Replies

I just returned from a confusing trip to immigration and was wondering if someone could offer some advice/guidance. I was told by the information desk outside immigration that the law would change on 30 day stamps so that people could renew for 30 days instead of 7. When I sat wn with the visa officer however he said that was not the case and that i could only renew for 7 days. Can I not get the 30 days because I had gotten the 30 day stamp before it came into effect? Should I go back in september and try and renew or should i make other plans to leave country for a tourist visa? Thanks in advance.

Jasper

The 30 day extension for visa exempt entries does not start until the 29th of this month.

And that's something the immigration-officer will not mention.........."As from the 29th".......

For the OP.......you may not be able to extend your visa-exempt for a second time (without a good reason).

The extension will be done only once per entry. There is no provision for being able to do a 2nd one for any reason.

And yet this article http://chiangmaicitynews.com/news.php?id=4366 clearly states from 29-Aug visa exempt extensions will be 7 days?

It is wrong. This from the new police order that goes in effect on the 29th.

2.4 In the case of tourism purposes:
Each permission shall be granted for no more than 30 days from the date on which the permitted period has lapsed. The alien:
(1) Must have been granted a tourist visa (TOURIST) or exempted from applying for a visa. Each permission shall be granted for no more than 30 days as announced by the Ministry of Interior.
(2) Must not be of a nationality or type prescribed by the committee monitoring official proceedings of officers of the Immigration Bureau.

I am not trying to extend my thirty day stamp twice only once. If the new 30 extention starts aug 29 can I with a 30 day stamp that end sep 9 take advantage of the new rule or not?

Yes you can get the extension. It will not matter when you got your entry as long as it is still valid.

Ok, thanks either the journalist or immigration chief in Chiangmai must have been mistaken.

I think the immigration officer just forgot to mention it.

If i do not have proof of an outward flight Will i be refused?

A ticket out is not listed as being required on the order that lists the documents required.

Until that they start doing them it is not possible to know for sure what will be required and it could vary from office to office.

If they did want one you would have time go out an buy a one way ticket out to a nearby country.
