No advance decisions can be made on NRC members: EC
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Election Commission (EC) has reiterated that provincial selection committees cannot make any early decisions on who should be nominated for the National Reform Commission (NRC).

EC secretary-general Puchong Nutrawong said this after several provincial selection committees contacted the National Council for Peace and Order asking if they could stop accepting applications next week.

"Things must go in line with the schedule. Applications have to be accepted between August 14 and September 2, and each provincial selection committee must select five candidates between September 13 and 22," Puchong said.

He said some provincial panels appeared to be convinced that they already have enough well-qualified candidates and wish to announce their choices soon.

Asked if these committees had decided on their nominees from the very start, Puchong said the members of these panels were senior officials and they knew what had to be done. "They know that NRC members need to be knowledgeable and capable," he said.
