what if I'm not here to report for 90 days on O-A visa

Featured Replies

Dumb question here. Now I'm here on o-a visa in Thailand. I intend to travel throughout Asia. Do I lose my o-a visa if I'm not here to report every 90 days?

Thank you

Beer

Reporting is due only when present in Thailand.

If you travel and come back on or before the "enter before" date of your visa, you do not need to do anything.

If you travel between the "enter before" and "allowed until" date, you need a re-entry permit that can be obtained at immigration or airport, 1,000 / 1,200 Bt single, 3,800 / 4,000 multiple.

You don't have to make a report of staying longer than 90 days in the country (see title of TM47 form) if you are not here.

My o-a is good till July of next year.I'm due to report on November 1st if I'm here. So as long as I receive an exit permission before leaving, im ok to return ie 5 months later, around February and report to immigration? Like paz says I don't have to do anything if im not here in Thailand.

Thanx

Beer.

You do not need exit permission. Thailand has no such thing.

You need nothing before you leave until after your visa expires. For as long as your visa is valid (enter before date on visa) you will get a new one year entry every time you enter the country.

After your visa expires you would need a re-entry permit to keep the permit to stay from your last entry valid

I am in the the final stages of getting all my papers etc together before going to the Royal Thai Embassy in London to apply for an 'O-A' visa (based on retirement) and my UK wife an 'O' visa (both multiple entry).

We are planning on entering Thailand in December 2014. If we leave Thailand and return, from your post it seems we get another 12 months each time we re-enter providing this is before the expiry date of our original visas.

If we make a final re-entry to Thailand just before our visa expires does this mean that we will not need to apply for an extension until December 2016 in effect meaning our original visas are valid for nearly 2 years?

Thanks for your help.

If you plan to in Dec. then you should apply during that to avoid loosing visa validity period.

For non-imm O-A visa, yes.

For non-imm O visa multi, each entry is 90 days, that means a person has to do border runs, and it can give a maximum of about 15 months in country, not two years.

Thanks Paz.

My understanding is that obtaining my wife's 'O' visa in the UK alongside my 'O-A' visa on basis of marriage removes the need for to exit Thailand every 90 days and gives her 1 year as per my 'O-A' visa. She will just need to do the 90 day reporting as well as me.

I don't think so, if she has an non-imm O visa then all the related regulations will apply to her independently from what you have.

What they will give here is a multiple entry non-o that requires her to leave the country every 90 days.

But after the 29th of this month she will be able to get an extension of as your dependent based upon your OA visa entry. She should only apply for a single entry non-o visa and then after arriving she can apply for the extension. Then she would need to get a re-entry permit if you want to travel. She would only need to make 90 day reports to immigration.

Thanks. It is all a bit confusing as the Thai Embassy in London are advising me that my wife will be granted a one year stay on entry to Thailand with her 'O' visa as she is accompanying me on my 'O- A' visa. PAlso advised that to renew after 12 months we just need to go to immigration with proof of funds (in my name) and marriage certificate and we will both be granted a further 12 months stay.

I cannot comment further because I've never heard of something like that, maybe others can.

There is no non-o visa that would allow her to stay a year without leaving the country. The are giving you false info.

As I said that is not a worry because you be able to apply for a one year extension of stay at immigration. No financial proof will be needed. Just copies of your marriage certificate and passport showing your visa and entry. Plus the 1900 baht fee. Just tell the embassy she only wants a single entry non-o.

Since you will have a multiple entry visa there will no need to get an extension after a year. In fact you would not be able to apply for an extension unless you only made one entry during the first year because you would not be able to do an extension until the last 30 days of your one year entry.

That is really helpful... thank you.

Just to be clear, if my wife applies for the extension in Thailand can she have an extension and multiple entry so she can leave and re-enter Thailand during the year?

What happens after her year extension expires?

You mention I will not need to apply for an extension after a year if I have left and re-entered Thailand but what about my wife?

She will get an extension equal to your permit to stay you have on the date when she applies. Then when it runs out she would apply for a new one equal to your permit to stay you have at that time from your latest entry.

She will be able to get a re-entry permit to keep her extension valid. A single costs 1000 baht and a multiple 3800 baht.

When your last permit to stay runs out and you apply for an extension of stay she will be able to apply for the same extension but based upon your extension.
