Hi everyone

Quick question. My friends and I are going to be in Thailand for October, cant wait. I'm going to show them more than just Bangkok this time so going to hire a car and then head off up to Kanchanaburi and see the River Kwai, the bridge, cemetery, Erawan National park etc..

Now, the question. Im planning to leave the hotel right by the Kanchanaburi area around 7am, head in to Bangkok, drop off hire car and then get a taxi from central down to Ban Phe. There's a speed boat leaving for Koh Samed for 16:00hrs

Judging by the link below, I think that's oodles of time.

07:00 - 10:00 3 hours tops from Kanchanaburi to Central Bangkok

10:00 - 11:00 1 hour drop off hire car, chill out, eat lunch

11:00 - 14:00 Taxi to Ban Phe

leaves 2hrs spare till last speed boat at 16:00

my mates think Im mad... I think we have bags of time.

Maybe not bags but ample.

Except for the one hour for car return and fast-food lunch? A lot of sit down restaurants don't start serving until 11/ 11:30.

Definitely lots of time. Plenty of restaurants around. You might even consider just getting into the taxi and eating at the "rest stop" past the airport on the motorway (highway 7). It's got a ton of restaurants to choose from. Open door noodle shops to air con restaurants. We eat there all the time on our way to/from Bangkok.

Plenty of ways to get to Samet also. If you are there early, just take the ferry and then the truck down to your resort. Could save you a bunch of time.
