Second Hand Purchase, Owner Leaving Town

Featured Replies

I see a bike for sale in the classifieds that interests me.

The owner bought it new, a few weeks ago but is now leaving town, wants to sell but the green-book has not been delivered.

How can I make this deal work?

Over to you.

Depends if dealer has applied for green book if they haven't sent off the paper work maybe he can change the name on it. If they cannot do the change where will the seller be to sign off on paper work for change to your name.

If it's an expensive bike it's probably a grey import and it will be highly unlikely you will get a green book.

First ask him to go with you to the dealer he bought it from. If it's an authorised dealer shouldn't be a problem and they can give you proof the book is on the way.

Any other dealer or individual forget it.

Excellent.

If I pull the trigger, I'll ask the seller to meet up at the dealer.

Thanks.

I would meet at the dealers before pulling the trigger. There will always be another deal

Agreed. Probably a good idea to check first with the dealer to be clear about the potential transaction and green book delivery.
