Commerce to expand low-priced food outlets across the country

BANGKOK: -- The Commerce Ministry will expand low-price fast-food outlets to cover every province next year.

It is targeting 5,000 by next year from 1,000 shops in Bangkok and nearby provinces this year.

Director-general of the Internal Trade Department Jintana Chaiyawonnagal said the project to encourage food traders to sell dishes priced at 25-35 baht each would help consumers lower their spending by a total of seven to eight million ion to Bt8 million a day.

The ministry will proceed further with the project if it gets a good response from consumers.

She said it will also support traders who join the project by supplying cheap rice, sugar, sauce, cooking oil, and other raw materials.

Maybe i'm a little naive but isn't the country already well served by such outlets ?

So as one dept is trying to clear the footpaths of traders etc another will clutter them up even more in some areas.

Goodness me, another stupid, badly thought out plan. I should be used to reading such nonsense by now but maybe these things will never get old..

I don't understand.... Is the country so poor it needs this or is it because there is such a huge divide between haves and have-nots?

Does the country need to spend less?

What exactly is the issuue being addressed here?

So it is declared that the a dish for 25 - 35 B is a low priced food.

BUT.

Just check a yesterday article about uni students make scandal cause their dish's (in canteen) price was up to 25 B from 17 B.

Nice and clear next generation.

All the dishes at my Uni are now 25 baht....which represents an increase on many and a reduction in size on others

Project "will help consumers lower their spending by a total of seven to eight million ion to Bt8 million a day."

On the reverse side, it will cost vendors Bt7-8 million a day. So much for free enterprise. Why not go to a food stamp system so reduced meal costs benefits those who most need it?

Have to get rid of Rice Stockpile somehow.
