work permit process and non-immi B visa

Featured Replies

Hi there,

thanks to this great forum I hope to find ananswer to my question. As a non-native speaker I hope to understand everything. Please be patient with me :-)

I applied for a work permit cause I am working as a volunteer at a thai foundation in nothern thailand. The ongoing process took already 3 months as the officer complains the forms and find new mistakes every time the work permit should be ready. Recently I found out that my non-immigrant B visa (1 year, multiple entry) makes it easy for me to wait. I crossed the border and came back with a stamp for another 3 months in Thailand.

Am I right, that it is not necessary to write this letter to the governour and all this stuff that usually is necessary to get a one year visa?

So folks? You experienced people what do you think?

I think that the 1 year multiple entry non-immi B was a mistake by the consulat in Germany. And that this makes it so much easier.

Thanks for answers that help me to clear that situation.

cheers

Stefan

Although you have a multiple entry visa that takes care of your stay you still need the work permit to work legally.

Once you have the work permit you can get a an extension of stay and will not have to leave the country every 90 days.

Thanks Ubonjoe, that's definitely right. Thats why I tend to proceed the application procedure. (Even if somebody makes it realy difficult for some reasons)

I was told that after receiving the work permit I have to apply for a one year visa. Do I have to do this as well? Even with my visa? I don't like the idea of the necassity to leave the country every 3 month. And want to be as legal as possible.

You don't apply for a visa you apply for a one year extension of stay. You would just need to make reports to immigration of staying longer than 90 days every 90 days.

You can apply for the extension during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry you got from your visa.
