Some Questions about applying for a Non-Immigrant B Visa (for teaching) at NYC Consulate

Featured Replies

Hey y'all,

I have a few questions that I wasn't able to find information about from the stickied posts and searching the forums.

Background Information:

I have been offered a job teaching english at a school in Phrae from Oct 27 through March 13th. They gave me a acceptance letter/VISA application letter and have instructed me to apply for a VISA at the NYC Thai embassy.

Documents I have:

-Valid passport

-VISA/acceptance letter from the school in Phrae

-Copy of Bachelors Degree from my University

-Three recent passport sized photos

-School information pamphlet

-My resume

-Police certificate showing no criminal record from local police department

I have not yet bought a plane ticket, ideally I'd like to wait until I get my VISA accepted, although I'm finding information in some places saying that I'll need to provide a copy of my flight details. I also do not have proof of adequate finance. I will easily have enough money saved by the time I leave for Thailand, but as of right now I do not have have the 20,000 Baht saved.

I do have the money for the VISA.

Will not having the airplane ticket and evidence of adequate funding prevent me from getting a Non-B VISA for teaching?

Also, how long should I expect this process to take.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Tickets and funds are not needed for the visa. The correct name of you planned visa is "non-immigrant B" even if called non-B for short.

"I will easily have enough money saved by the time I leave for Thailand, but as of right now I do not have have the 20,000 Baht saved."

Your flight isn't that far off. Sure you'll have time to save that much?
