Thaksin University teaching positions

Is this university named after the Thai PM convicted of corruption, or is there another respectable Thaksin its name honors? I'm not trying to be negative about the place, I was just a little shocked by the name. If it is named after Thaksin Shinawatra, who actually did that, his sister?

Thaksin means "southern". It's the Southern University. If it was named after your man, it might be called Shinawatra University, or something. whistling.gif

Not sure about the appeal of the actual jobs but, IMHO, it's a great location and a great town to live in.

FWIW, the Thaksin Express train isn't named after the ex-PM either.

Don't jump to confusions.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with Thaksin Shinawatra; it was established under that name in 1996 before he was PM. Before that is was a branch of Srinakharinwirot University.

Thaksin is Thai language for "south". More info available on Wikipedia if you are interested.

I didn't want to jump to any conclusion. That's why I asked the question. But I wonder how may people do jump to that conclusion. Do you guys that work there ever talk about that possibility and how some people might shun it assuming that Thaksin Shinawatra is involved in it?

BTW, I hope you find the right people for the openings there.

If folk don't bother doing a bit of basic research, they might not be best suited for employment in a university. sad.png

Where did you get the idea that I was interested in working for the university? Try reading my posts again and see if you can figure out that I was asking about the name of the place.

If folks can't understand what they're reading, they might not be best suited to make negative remarks about other people.

Or maybe you were so desperate to troll, that you just jumped on the first post that seemed suitable. Unfortunately, by doing that, you only come across as not being very bright.

I didn't. I referred to folk - the same folk you suggested "might shun it". If I wanted to refer to you in particular, I would have said "you". But I didn't.

Folk is perfectly OK, thank-you. wai2.gif

Anyway, I think we've established that maybe you're not interested in the positions.
