No1Farang Posted September 5, 2014 Share Posted September 5, 2014 Recently somebody has mored a water park type white plastic giant pyramid/castle in the middle of the beach. It is horrible and an eyesore. Things like that belong in Chaweng or Patong but not here in Lamai. I don't see any children playing on it so maybe it is not the money spinner the owner was hoping for. I personally hope it will blow away in the coming rainy season. And the jellyfish have arrived. Yesterday I saw a few of the big ones but today there is an invasion of the tea cup sized ones. Various colours. Specially in the area around the big boulders. For many years they resisted 'developing' it...now shan't be going back. Far SW beaches and islands much better. Absolut Posted September 6, 2014 Share Posted September 6, 2014 There was one on Chaweng Beach for the past few years, in fact there was a few different type of inflatables next to each other and promoted as a water fun park from memory. So when I post an observation about a large floating bouncy castle being an eyesore I guess it was inevitable that I would get some responses from people who like that sort of thing. First they clear the beaches then they cover the sea.... I enjoyed lamaii because it was as it should be (It wasn't perfect But Catered for most) Why do they have to vandalize every "painting" in Thailand?? Tourist save for a year or years to come to Thailand It takes 11 hours to get here from Europe and at least 17 from USA -Most don't want a cheap, tacky, dirty, fun fair bouncy castle on a paradise beach! You guys are miserable old coots. That's a rather rough comment.......a bit like me calling you a looser because you like this sort of tacky shit. But of course I would never do that. On a more serious note......well yes, of course it is for 'the kids' (actually more for the profit of some locals). But here you have a beautiful beach to play on and show the children, who may well come from areas where there are no beaches/crappy beaches/polluted beaches/beaches with jetskis and bouncy castle........and you want to instil in them that nature can be improved upon by dumping a giant load of ugly plastic on the sand. Not sure how a bouncy castle harms the environment as you just pack it up at night however it does knacker out the kids and give parents a few extra hours of us time whilst the kids sleep earlier than usual. On Ban Tai beach there are some kiddy slides and swings.... might be for people staying at one of the resorts? Regardless, there are people asking here on the forum, which are "child friendly" beaches.... Ban Por beach too has a few play things too, one has to search these things out .... I'm neither old nor bitter, but when one of these appeared @ Choeng Mon beach a few years ago it came with a rather tacky 'PRICE 100 BAHT' written on it in black marker pen and was policed by the jet ski thugs-to the point where teenage girls were blatantly groped while males were assaulted or unceremoniously evicted for not paying instantly (100m offshore in swimming trunks!) or failing to understand that it wasn't free. The duration of the 100 baht was supposed to be for a full day, but many that went back after an hour or two were expected to cough up twice. If it's going to be done it needs to be done properly- No 'policing' except perhaps a lifeguard, & free because takings will surely rise.
