Ministry of Public Health deployes medical teams to prepare for disaster

BANGKOK, 8 September 2014 (NNT) – The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has initiated the Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) and Mini MERT to prepare for disaster and emergency cases with aims to cover 80% of districts and provinces nationwide this year, and the rest next year.


Permanent-secretary for health Narong Sahametapat today presided over the training ceremony for MERT and Mini MERT in 8 central provinces, including Nontaburi, Pathum Thani, Ayutthaya, Sara Buri, Lopburi, Singburi, Ang Thong, and Nakhon Naiyok.

The drills were attended by 600 representatives of the MoPH, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Defense, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), and local authorities.

In the meantime, this exercise demonstrated various types of emergency cases such as chemical leakage and flooding, coordination among relevant authorities, command system, and treatment system to efficiently prevent loss of life or disability.

What disaster?

Thais don't plan for disasters, they only talk about doing something so that another disaster doesn't happen again. Then it does.

Perhaps the story meant that a bunch of people are going to get together to talk about what they could do after a disaster happens.
