VW to invest 1 billion euros in Thai plant

I wonder whether this story came up in the forum already?

Forget Malaysia.

This German newspaper source has been quoted by hundreds of articles wordwide.

So far its the only original source.

The process is going on for years.

A billion Euro is not expensive for a major car plant.

There will be no GTI made in Thailand.

Its all about micro/ECO cars.

Mirco and Eco cars bah.gif

Yes I know, the possibility that VW will also produce cars that we really want isn´t very high as in SEA it´s all about mobility for the masses. But still, Thailand has such a dull car market and everything new to it is good.

If there´s no GTI, a Polo Blue GT would also rock, who wants a Jazz when you can have 150 turbo HP and an (advertised) 4,7l/100km consumption. Please V DUB, give us something cool thumbsup.gif

1.4 L engine ?

A new matchbox comes to TH market.

Ehhhhhh, Polo

Yeah, the tiny VW engine is coming to the land of BIG BLOCKS cheesy.gifcheesy.gif1.2, 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6l Hondas and Toyotas)

Ever tried one of these 1.4 TSI? They go up to 170HP as a twin charger, max torque from low till high revs. Great little engines with a BIG punch. That is a million times more fun than any VIOS, Yaris, City can provide. Or Ford´s ecoboost 1.00l 125HP , that´s fun too thumbsup.gif

Did they get lost on their map, or what else is the reason for announcing the amount of investment in Malay Ringgit?

Which paper published this article? Read the OP again.

Yes, exactly, a German newspaper, and they announced the amount in RM = Ringgit Malay ( 1 EUR = 4 RM), ist's not "Reichsmark"

Best to let it go now, Ralf, or you'll start to look very silly...

would it be VW as a car or as a Group ?

Skoda vRS = 1.4 lt with a super charger + Turbo already sold here.. Yeti also a 1.4 lt Turbo.. both could be a lot cheaper ?

Audi A1 and A2 1.4 lt with a super charger + Turbo ? Seat cars come back ? all part of the VW group

You notice how when it's a load of Germans turning up here to open a factory, well, it's called investment for Thailand, and it's a good thing.

Now, you get a Chinese company, if they turn up here and set up a factory, well, that's called 'part of the Chinese invasion of Thailand'.

Is it really the case that Germans don't actually want to take over other peoples countries, but the Chinese, well, they DO want to take over other peoples countries ??

then they could have cancelled it....

Your naivety is boundless.

Why couldn't they have backed off on coming here if they had issues in dealing with a country run by a military junta?

Sure, they've invested time and money on getting the deal to this stage, but peanuts compared to what they're going to spend over the next couple of years.

Btw, AEC already exists. It's ASEAN that's coming in .... eventually. I'm not sure what difference that will make in this case though.

No. ASEAN has been around since 1967. It's the ASEAN Economic Community that will be becoming a reality in 2015.

ahh ... crap. Yes, you're right. Got them mixed up.

Although, the "reality in 2015" might be pushing it a bit.
