I will soon change my extension from Ed to retirement but a friend of mine say I had to get new Non O as I have been on Ed extension for 3 years. Would not be surprised that when I stand there on my last day of my extension and want to change they will say that I have to make new visa. I have not see any reports of this so is here anyone that actually done same as I will do the last couple of weeks and with out any problems?

You can change the reason for your extension from attending school to retirement without getting a visa.

You will need a letter from your school stating you are no longer attending school effective the date you go to immigration. They will cancel your current extension and process your extension based upon retirement.

You will need 800k baht in the bank for 60 days or have proof of 65k baht income to do it.

Well.

I did all must the same thing on May this year, i go from all must 3 years on ED-Extension to Married-Extension.

And Nonthabui Immigration want me to get letter from school saying i stop on same day as my ED-Extension run to. 5 June 2014.

Then i was ask to come 30 days before that day and apply for Married-Extension.

When i return 30 days before, they want some more paper then what in the requirement, and told me to come again 14 days before with all the paperwork..

I apply on 26 May 2014, and letter from school say i stop 5 June 2014.

I can understand why you worried, i did contact Nonthaburi Immigration, Bangkok Immigration, and call 1111, More then once all of them.

And no one was able to say for sure if it was possibly to do it. Yes, No, Not sure, wait and see. was some of the respond i got.

But all turn out to be okay at the end.

Only want to tell about My Immigration, And yes i know it, Nonthaburi Immigration is "strange" !!!!!

Kindly..

Why is a letter from the school required?

After someone finished their educational visa or they left the country I assume the education visa would cancel and could apply for different visa.

I must contradict. I had a similar situation. I had 3x 90days ED extensionen and wanted to get an 90 days extension because I have a thai child. Immigration officer (discussed it with a group of other immigration officers) in Udon Thani refused and told me to go abroad and get a Non-O visa first. I couldn't get any extension for my ED visa except an ED visa extension. He was absolutly strict to not give me one day longer in this country. I even showed him a court letter of my open case to get legal father rights with an appointment for an interview at the youth welfare office.

Your case is about an officer that did not applied written regulations.

Normally it is possible to change reason of extension even if coming from non-imm ED visa, as ubonjoe is saying.

He discussed it with different officers in the immigration office. Always came back with a "No" .... but at least thanks for the hint...actually I informed myself here in the forum before I went to the immigration but what could I do...always "Mai Dai".."mai dai"..."mai dai".... :(

Yes, a decision wrongly taken at one immigration office, Not at all the immigration offices of Thailand.

Thanks for sharing and this is the reason I m worried as they do what they want and nothing I can do about it. If a officer say I have to get a new Non O I have to even if that is wrong and not by the rules..And that is the biggest isssue with all this visa BS that we are treated differently ,your life can get badly messed up by a person that having a bad day and taking it out on you. and we can read about this stories here on TV every day. Thanks for all replay, Think I have to pack a bag just in case

There is one post that he did a change to an extension based upon marriage.

Then you have one at Udon trying to get a 90 day extension which does not exist. Only a 60 day extension is possible. There is not enough info on that refusal.

You need to go to CW with the letter from the school and apply for your extension based upon retirement.
