ED Visa - required documents

Featured Replies

Situation:

· Currently in 4th year at language school in Bangkok area

Regarding that every ED visa holder (from 2nd year and above) has to get a new ED visa…

· What are the required documents for application (especially Vientiane, but also other countries, if different)? Perhaps someone may be able to list them up.

· And are the following documents needed, as I read about it in other posts:

o certificate of (good) conduct (respectively for what nationalities)

o proof of financial funds (suppose it is not meant financial income for students)

o language test (written)

· Is the interview at MOE this time not needed beforehand (as for continuation), but after obtaining the new visa (for purpose of continuation)?

From Vientiane website. http://vientiane.thaiembassy.org/vientiane/en/consular/consular_check/

Document required are;
1. Letter of acceptance from the concerned academic institute/organisation
2. Copy of registration certificate of the concerned academic institute
3. For those who wish to study, an official letter from the Ministry of Education of Thailand, or other sub-authorities
concerned, approving the enrolment of foreign students is also required
4. Academic record and the Student ID (if currently studying)
5. For those who wish to attend seminar, or training session, or internship, a recommendation letter from the
concerned organisation addressed to the Embassy is also required

You can check the websites for other embassies and consulates by clinking on the link button for them here:

This is a major help because we can see it before we are hot and bothered after waiting in line. Can I bring up a few parts that I am not sure on please? Using this from your link http://vientiane.thaiembassy.org/docs/Visa%20Application%20Form%20-%20NEW%20%28Aug2013%29.pdf

>Type of Travel Document - I assume passport?

>Date of Arrival in Thailand, Flight No. or Vessel’s name, Duration of Proposed Stay, - this is a bit sketchy because I have not left for 3 years now and have no arrival card in my passport?

>Name and address of Guarantor in Lao PDR - I have no clue what that even means, who or why should someone guarantee me

>Purpose of Visit: - Education is not on there, is the ED visa a tourist visa?

Thanks, ubonjoe for the quick answer.

I went to this embassy site before. However these requirements were posted a while ago: "(Last update on 27 MAY 2014)".

Considering the recent changes and different rumors of additional documents, I thought there might be further requirements.
Perhaps anyone out there, who just came back or has reliable news on additional docs which were requested?

There have been recent reports of getting ED visas in Vientiane with no mention of needing additional documents.

There has been no changes to the rules for getting visas.

Rumors are nothing more than that.

>Date of Arrival in Thailand, Flight No. or Vessel’s name, Duration of Proposed Stay, - this is a bit sketchy because I have not left for 3 years now and have no arrival card in my passport?

Date of the next arrival in Thailand. If you have lost your departure card, fill a new one and show your entry stamp to the officer when you leave.

Write self for guarantor and study for purpose.

I was just miffed and thought you had to have an arrival card and not a departure card in your passport, I have my departure card which simply has my personal details and my flight number. Thanks for clearing all that up for me,would have been a bigger headache there

Yes you can. As far as I know that is form they are using now.

But I would not glue the photos on (or have a couple in reserve) until you are sure they have not changed the form.

Thank you very much, this is a lot of help. I have no idea how many farang you have helped over the years but it must be a hell of a lot. I was thinking I should leave the photos until I get there, going to take about 12 anyway.

Last question regarding the form, I am going to the Lao consulate to obtain my ED visa but that form says 'Lao Embassy' ..?

Unless you are going to the consulate in Savannakhet you will be going to the consular section of the Thai embassy in Vientiane.

I should be heading here (bottom right)? And thanks again for the help, it really has given me some peace of mind. I will take this form to my next lesson and go through it with a staff member.
