PHUKET: Sustained downpours are expected throughout Thailand in the coming week, especially in the North and Northeast as Typhoon Kalmaegi gets ready to clash with the Philippines tonight, before making landfall with China by Wednesday (Sep 17).

In the Phillipines, rescue workers are searching for an unknown number of ferry passengers lost at sea after the vessel they were on capsized due to strong waves caused by the approaching typhoon.

At least two people have been confirmed killed from the incident about six nautical miles (11 kilometres) from the small island of Panaon or about 680 kilometres (420 miles) south of Manila, Philippines, the country's coastguard told reporters.

Meanwhile, small vessels in the Andaman Sea are advised to stay ashore, with wave heights expected to be between 2-4 metres.

According to the real-time worldmeteorology.com weather prediction, the rate of rainfall in Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi will be as high as 7-8 millimeters per hour, throughout the entire area, in the coming days, and as low as 3-4mm.

Considering all this, tourists and residents in vulnerable areas, including flood and land-slide prone areas of Phuket and the rest of the kingdom, are advised to remain alert and monitor the situation.

Due to the Southwesterly monsoon weather system from the India subcontinent, September and October are historically (30 and 15 year, respectively) the wettest months for Phuket, when on average some 450mm falls throughout the month.

Storm track on Wunderground has it passing Thailand to the north, perhaps skimming Chiang Rai.

So that explains why they talk about Phuket in the article blink.png

Edit, OK I just noticed it was a Phuket News source. wai.gif
