Recommended places for basic Thai in in Chiang Mai?

Featured Replies

I'm heading there this Thursday for a while. Any recommendations and price fee's for basic conversational Thai? And what are the hours included?

Many thanks, Dean.

Also when I attend a class what would I be expected to wear?

As for what to wear, I'd recommend clothes.

Lol, I meant formal or not formal?

Thanks for the link, saw this yesterday was wondering what a conversational course 1 included.

YMCA, very cheap, 2hrs, three days a week. About 2k for 5 weeks.

Wear whatever you like.

Yup. YMCA. Nice people too.

I understand that AUA Chiang Mai still uses the J. Marvin Brown textbooks. They're pretty dated now, and the teaching method is rather traditional. A fair amount of drills to practise tones and other aspects of pronunciation. It's a course for the slightly more serious student.

As for what to wear, casual is fine, though probably best not to go wearing flip-flops, cut off jeans and a soiled wifebeater.
