CaptHaddock
I can't stand these little Thai brooms that turn sweeping up into stoop labor. Anyone know where I can buy an American-style broom with a long handle and stiff bristles?
attrayant
All major supermarkets I've been to have them. I got mine at Big C but I've seen them at Tesco too.

I don't usually have occasion to go to a Big C, but I'll try them.
JoeInSurin
Go to True Value if you want a good quality American broom. Big C sells crap. http://www.truevalue.co.th/search.php
besth
Thought you were going to say your MIL would be visiting and you wanted to impress her by buying her some imported luxury ride Tesco Lotus has decent ones for what you say you require. Not expensive either.
newcomer01
Why American style? Don't they have brooms anywhere else?

attrayant
Why American style? Don't they have brooms anywhere else? Yes they do, but East Kyrgyzstanian brooms are very hard to find here.
Daffy D
What about an English broom? I keep telling the wife how much better they are compared to the local ones but can't find any to prove the point Have used all styles of local brooms but non of them do a good job like a genuine English broom
namdocmai
http://www.truevalue.co.th/product_subtype.php?id=28 Here but this shop gives very bad service and nobody speaks english....also not cheap
CaptHaddock
I found one at Home Depot on Ploenchit, which is the nearest of the stores mentioned. The broom looks adequate, but not more than that. Will try some of the other stores eventually in hopes of a really good straw broom. Thanks all. There are Home Pro, Home Mart, and Home Works stores in Thailand but Home Depot has not moved here yet
attrayant
Wait - the ones you alluded to in the OP are synthetic. I've not seen any made from straw. In my experience the synthetic bristles have a straighter sweeping edge and make better contact with the floor. That's what the Thai style and straw brooms are lacking.
